I seriously can't believe how John Terry and Steven Gerrard make it on to all these lists.

Gerrard waos great after Easter, but cack before it and wasn't in the CL long. Terry was jsut average.

You tell 'em Dru. By the way how is the 'future world class' Quaresma doing? Surely he should be in that list by now....

1. Ronaldo
2. Xavi
3. Ibrahimovic

But it will go:
1. Messi
2. Ronaldo
3. ???

I'd understand if you rated xavi who was fantastic, but Ronaldo and Ibra??? SERIOUSLY?

Messi deserves it, it would be a disgrace if he doesnt win it.

ronaldo carried man utd. He was sole reason they won epl last year (He hit 8 winning or tieing goals) and was more influential in UCL, goal v. porto, arsenal etc. etc.

Ibra was most dominant force in italian league. I dunno i believe without either, both those teams would have been title less last year.... Without messi i still think they could get a treble, definitely la liga.... but without xavi, no

If, like I have been told by many on here, the CL is where the players are judged, then it would be a crime for Ronaldo not to be up there.

He won the 1/4 against Porto with one of the greatest CL goals ever

His performance vs Arsenal was one of the best from a striker I've seen:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZWX2DTEv5g

And although his performance in the CL final has been critisized due to his selfishness, he was atleast the only player along with Rooney to show some heart.

He also scored against Inter at OT in the 2nd round.

, no

Ronaldo was nothing special in the league last year. It was the CL where he carried us.

In 2008 he did it in both along with (in the CL) Scholes.

Messi first,
Ronaldo second,
Iniesta third (neither the second or third count eitherway)

Kaka will finish above Zlatan even if he doesn't deserve it either, or maybe just cause now his at Barcelona will Zlatan get something before Kaka.

i know, i love how people say he only scores simple goals.... 1 thing I love about ronaldo is fact, he is as fancy as he needs to be. (I credit fergie for simplifying his play, making him more direcT).

I appreciate skill as much as anyone, but i feel like la liga players get so much undeserved credit for being so technical when the league lacks any sort of defense.... Ronaldinho is example A, look at him for barca, then in italy where defenders will close down on you....

But honestly, ronaldo is the total package, and showed it again last year.... scored from deep, headers, tap ins, ool finishes under pressure etc. etc. He wasn't as good as he was in 07-08, but honestly.... he was still the best player in his position (Same as messi's) In the world

Yeah, he was still the main player, but the other players were much more important than the year before, where he basically ran the show.

i wouldnt say messi ran the show for barca though. and thats my thing. Atleast when kaka won it, he was milans WHOLE attack. And he gets underrated in league, he carried milan until february and really if we had better strikers/cohesion in midfield/defense (lots of injuries) he would have had a dozen assists in the first 4 months

Why would Ronaldo come b4 Xavi or Eto'o ?
1-Xavi
2-Inie
3-Messi
4-Eto'o
But Messi wining it isnt uncalled either since he was great + awards alwaysd favor attackers over midfielders or defenders.

And how dare they include Gou.
Dont they know that its only the French league :o
Playin like shit week in & out in Italy > playin good in Spain or France.

Ronaldo was much better than Eto'o. For every chance Eto'o scored he missed 2, and he didn't really do that much in the CL, apart from asking Vidic if he would be so kind as to let him score.

I dont agree but lets say we do explain why would CR7 come b4 Xavi or Inie.
@ best he could edge Eto'o 4 the 4th position.
U said it urself , he wasnt great in the league while Eto'o was kickin ass in both CL & the league.

Yeah, but I'm using the same logic most use when talking about 06/07.

Kaka was great in the CL, not so amazing in the League, while Ronaldo was amazing in the league and 'just' very good in the CL. Yet I haven't spoken to a single Milan fan who says Ronaldo should have been the WPOTY.

It's a similar situation in many ways.

no offense, but i dont think iniesta deserves to be on the list. Yeah he's world class player but he was hurt for a pretty long period of time and barca didn't skip a beat... He was great in ucl semi's and finals though.

But i mean if u have to give that award to anyone on the team it is xavi....

Well there is just 2 many mistakes in what u just said.
Firstly I said back then that CR7 deserved it more than Kaka.
And back then they chose a winner of the CL over a winner of a league.
But in Eto'o/CR7 we have Eto'o a winner of both while playin great in both & we have CR7 a good player in Cl which he didnt win & a so so in a league which they won.

And we r here talkin about what we think not what they will decide.

My bad, you are one of the few.

I get your point, but for me Ronaldo was a star player, Eto'o wasn't as much. Plus, for every chance Eto'o scored he missed 2, it's just that Barcelona would creat an obscene amount of chances per game.

I remember when Rivaldo I think it was won it in 1999, when it should have been Beckham. Since then I have held a distaste for the award.

Plus the fact that we've only had 4 pervious winners doesn't help

Well truth be known I think it's:

Xavi
Messi
Ronaldo
Iniesta

Although I don't think you can go wrong with any of them tbh. I change my mind all the time.

Tommorow I'll think it;s something different.

Cristiano last season was as good as the previous one, only he didn't score as much goals. He was the most important player for United to win the league title and in the CL he saved his best for the most important games. He was a beast, Xavi Etoo and Iniesta as good as they were last season, cant touch him in terms of performance. He's a clear second after Messi, and third either one of those three from Barca (my choice would be Iniesta, he is immense).

also thanks manutd fan for giving me a nice chuckle about Beckham ever being worthy of a golden ball. :D
