Well, whatever happens, Zapata is no longer in the market now that Bacca was bought and needs another player to get him accustomed with the new club.

Had a excellent Copa America proved himself as a top defender.

Except for the crucial game against Argentina
He was the ONE weak link in a good defensive setting
He was totally overshadowed by Murillo, who happened to lose his penalty kick :fp:
Even our "legend" Armero's substitute, a guy named Arias, presented better tactical awareness
Ospina was a monster during the 90 minutes, but I feel he could have done more about the penalty kicks
Neymar's best friend Zuniga lost his penalty, but had an OK game and made an important save

The one good thing for us about this game was the completely anonymous display of one Jackson Martinez :g:

he had a very good copa well done zapata. hopefully this will make it easier to sell him if galliani has the slightest intention of modifying the defense.

Zapata is one of those guys that's really good for country, not so good for club.

Like Milan Baros etc.

I'd say Jon Dahl Tomasson but I really liked that guy

JDT actually scored some pretty important goals for us. He was Ancelotti's joker from the bench.

yeah, it wasn't that he didn't do good for us, he just wasn't a protagonist

We blame too much the defense. In the first year here, once we found the midfield with Flamini, Montolivo, Muntari (with Ambrosini in support), and El Shaarawy + Boateng/Niang playing on the wings but returning to help, he did well in defense.

Next season, El Shaarawy gets injured, Robinho starts with Balotelli, no more Flamini and Niang/Boateng to defend(instead it was Poli/Essien and Birsa/Honda) ... our fullbacks start suddenly sucking and/or get injured (looking at Constant and De Sciglio) or he gets to play with Emanuelson.

Last season, it's not worth considering because in addition to the above
-a- the coach was Inzaghi
-b- there was constant rotation in central defense

Furthermore, he gets too much crap for not knowing how to pass. Well if you lack midfielders that can pass, he's definitely gonna be a bigger liability than a defender with better passing skill.

Conclusion: I'd not discard Zapata just yet, personally I wouldn't discard even Rami before Mihajlovic gets to see them in a few friendlies (hope they don't show up like Mexes did last preseason). A lot will depend on the pairing.

What he was perfectly fine against Argentina.

Also Murillo is class. He will be one of the best defenders in the world in a year or two. So him playing better is not exactly a surprise.

It was just too funny to see Mihajlovic reaction after Zapata kicked the ball into the stands just because a Bayern player was getting near. :fp::lol::lol:

Bona was in fault there

Zapata actually played well today, lots of mistakes
But the rest did worse

Zapata had some time to make a better decision, he just freaked out.

true, but that's something we know for a long time

the more reason Bona shouldn't have put him in a difficult situation
especially because he had more time

This dude won the ball and immediately sent it back to opponent which then initialized another attack back to us :fp:
