The problem with Barca trying to rebuild is they are stuck with Messi and Suarez right now who do nothing defensively. They do not press like they used to and they will never track back. This leaves them extremely vulnerable defensively against top sides.
I think they need to make the tough choice of letting Suarez leave and finding a more energetic replacement. Griezman and Messi like to play in the same areas so only one can play in the side. They also need to decide whether the Suarez replacement is a winger or a striker and move Messi back to false 9. And imagine Barca do not have a single reliable winger/wide forward in their squad despite their 433 dna. Their midfield lacks creativity, goals, press resistance and De Jong might be one of the most overrated players I've seen in a while. He takes forever on the ball and never plays an incisive pass. He can be a very good dm but he isn't good enough going forward to play CM. They need to chose between him and Busquets. Pjanic adds a touch of creativity but he is not world class. Then they only have Jordi Alba as a decent fullback. Their problems run really deep on the pitch and off the pitch they are a disaster. |
