And I am the best right wing GK in the history of football.
Am sure since there isnt no one in the world who play in that spot.
If you didnt get the point then dont bother to reply.
I can think of Pirlo, Alonso, Carrick, Pizarro, Sahin, Scholes (later yrs) playing the deep-lying playmaker role. Give the man his due.

Pirlo , Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Montolivo and Aquilani have tried and failed to be one, D'Agastino, Scholes,Fabregas, Schweinsteiger, Carrick, Gunter Netzer, Wolfgang Overath, Socrates many a times played as one, Riquelme, Redondo, Jean tigana.. etc etc etc.. moreover the Sweeper/libero of old used to do the same job almost but with more defensive responsibility

btw u might find more info abt what a deep-lying playmaker is here

So? it wasnt his job to run? thats why he was converted from a trequartista to a regista. Gattuso and Pirlo were a partnership .. as gattuso once said something like.. Pirlo creates and i destroy.. It won MIlan quite a few things and i seem to remember Italy winning a world cup with him not running that much and being man of the match of 3 matches including that of the semi final and the wcup final.. U dont have to run much if you can play passes like this

Nah... that's abbiati

Brutal.

i don't mind idea of montolivo, aquilani, boateng, mvb midfield. It's seems allegri doesn't want a trequartista but 4 mid's interchanging. Or atleast 3 of them interchanging, with anchor holding it together. Similar to what italy did today with pirlo, montolivo, de rossi, motta i suppose. I don't doubt the 4 could function as milan midfield, just a matter of lining it up and getting right understanding,

Interesting idea. And it could work.

Honestly, I really doubt whether a pure trequartista would work these days.

Instead of Aquilani, I would rather have someone more dynamic like one of the two Dortmund kids, Kagawa or Gotze. But Montolivo is very very suitable.

I agree, Montolivo + someone like Hamsik/Honda would be perfect.

Gotze/Kagawa will be difficult and expensive, Milan wont go for this.

I still have doubts about Aquilani.

Just give it up.

He outplayed Spain's midfielders around him.

And they are the best of the worlds midfield.

Some of your criticisms of Pirlo are valid but drop the blind hatred.
Did I commented on his game ?
The best player in the world in a particular spot is what made ROFL

Wowwwwwwwwwww , stiff competition from world class/legends players.
But just for the record I consider Alonso better while Scholes is much more consistant & Sahin is still young with Pizzaro very much underrated.
So in a way he outclassed Pizzaro , hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Nah... that's abbiati
Shit , forgot all about him :D

Just seen the highlights and that chip confirmed it(non strong foot). We need to sign monty nobody else for that Lcm spot. At his price, ability and durability he is the perfect fit, many more great footballing years to come.

Monty plays sexy football, and Milan plays sexy football lets make a sexy football porno.

anything less is a dis-service to Italian football.

A pure trequartista of quality would work in any days.

Riccardo Montolivo could stay with Fiorentina for now as AC Milan have decided not to pursue the Italy international in the summer transfer window, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

The Serie A champions are eager to add another midfielder to their squad and had allegedly earmarked Montolivo as the perfect addition to their current roster.

Nevertheless, they have refused to meet Fiorentina's hefty demands and have therefore postponed their transfer plans until January 2012.

Milan are hopeful that Fiorentina will lower their demands in the January transfer window and will try to sign Montolivo on a Bosman move next year if they fail to lure him away from his current club halfway through the season.

Montolivo has a contract with Fiorentina until the summer of 2012 and has already made it clear that he won't sign an extension to his current deal.

Milan secured the services of Ajax midfielder Urby Emanuelson for a cut price in January 2010, while they signed Roma's Philippe Mexes and Marseille defender Taye Taiwo on a Bosman move this summer.

But are you kidding me? So we will have to cope with this 35 y.o. midfielders throughout the season?

We will be lucky to get in CL 16 KO's and will definitely struggle against top teams of Serie A. Once again we will have to rely on our attackers' individual talents and pray God for Ibra to pull a wonder moment each game.

But i m sure Mr X was NOT PLAYING IN ITALY.
Plus it was riola who said i have been working on Mr X since January in london. Montolivo wasnt the original Mr X (if there was a Mr X)

No club is going to bid for Montolivo untill the very last day of the market. Montolivo's contract expires june next year and mean he'll walk out of Fiorentina for free.

Clubs interested in Montolivo, like us, are going to make an concret offer on the last day because Fiorentina has to accept it. If not they wont cash at all for this guy.

Fiorentina ultimatum to Montolivo

It seems increasingly likely to stay at Fiorentina Riccardo Montolivo. According to the Corriere dello Sport / Stadium , the club purple, after rejecting an offer considered inadequate, would be willing to leave the market for another midfielder Lombard two or at most three days, after which, at the cost of losing a year on a free transfer, the player would be detained once and for all.

Riccardo Montolivo: Can He Help The Good Become Great?
by Adam Digby at Wednesday, Aug 17 2011
2011%2f8%2fmontolivo.png

To watch Italy overcome World and European champions Spain in their latest friendly was to almost see a team come of age. Since replacing Marcello Lippi in the aftermath of last summers South African disaster, Cesare Prandelli spent little time searching for a style of play. He instantly ended the Azzurri's search for wingers - a wait that surpasses anything penned at the hand of Samuel Beckett - by packing as much play-making talent into midfield as possible and tailoring his forward line to suit the opposition in any given fixture.

This new tactical and philosophical framework has found space for not only Andrea Pirlo and Alberto Aquilani, but one of the most pleasing aspects has been the emergence of Riccardo Montolivo. Having previously stuttered in the famous blue shirt of the national team, the Fiorentina captain has thrived under a coach who previously drew what were undoubtedly the best seasons of his career so far from the Caravaggio-born midfielder.

While some of this was clearly down to the player naturally maturing as he grew older, perhaps their shared history also played a role. Both men began their respective careers - Montolivo as a young player and Prandelli as a novice coach - in the youth sector at Atalanta, widely regarded throughout the peninsula as among the finest centres of development in football. It came as no surprise when, shortly after his appointment as coach of the Viola, the club would raid the Orobici for perhaps their most talented product since Roberto Donadoni.

Over the previous three seasons Montolivo had made 73 appearances for the Bergamo club, netting seven times and it was clear when the club was relegated in 2005 that the future of their increasingly influential play-maker lay elsewhere. His first season in Florence would rarely see him play but, following the departure of Stefano Fiore, he would play a major role in their impressive 2006-07 season, scoring twice and registering five assists. Prandelli's side overcame a 15 point penalty - for the clubs perceived role in the Calciopoli scandal - to gain entry into the UEFA Cup.

The flashes of brilliance became more and more frequent as he grew into his role as orchestrator-in-chief of Fiorentina's attacking play, while also improving his defensive play, as his 2.83 tackles per game last season serves to highlight. That UEFA campaign, in which the Viola reached the Semi-Final - losing on penalties to Rangers - would introduce his deft touch and incredible vision to a wider audience, none more so than with his goal and well taken penalty in the two-legged victory over Everton.

Becoming a full international at aged 22 - and captain of Fiorentina just two years later - in a country who's aversion to young players shows the regard in which he is held. Montolivo proved that, when he is in a well-performing team and given a platform on which to build the play, he can comfortably be the best player on the pitch.

Even over the last two seasons, as Fiorentina struggled he has shown that he possesses all the qualities found in the worlds best midfielders. His pass completion rate - 83.17% last year - is testament to his greatest skill, while his three assists in a side desperately struggling for goals were invaluable as the club struggled to overcome the arrival of Siniša Mihajlović in place of Prandelli.

But generally when the team he plays in struggles, we see a lesser contribution from Montolivo, becoming far more inconsistent possibly because of the added pressure to lead the side. During the 2010 World Cup for example, his passing was uncharacteristically poor - completing just 71.1% - and he would be widely criticised for three dismal showings as Italy crashed out in the group stage.

Now, after refusing to sign a new contract to remain with Fiorentina, he is linked with a move to Milan as one of the countless 'Mister X' candidates. His creativity from midfield would be invaluable in a squad where Massimiliano Allegri has many willing runners - Gennaro Gattuso, Massimo Ambrosini and Mark van Bommel - but little in the way of invention.

Losing him may have catastrophic consequences for a Fiorentina side already shorn of Adrian Mutu, Gaetano D'Agostino and Sebastien Frey, but adding Riccardo Montolivo may help make this good Milan side great.
