Ajax have clinched the Eredivisie title by beating rivals Twente 3-1 in the Amsterdam ArenA on Sunday afternoon.
Ajax grabbed the lead midway through the first half via Siem de Jong, who found the net with a superb finish after being set up by Gregory van der Wiel. An own goal from Denny Landzaat then helped the Godenzonen to a two-goal lead before Theo Janssen pegged one back.
Nevertheless, Siem de Jong proved his class once more when he beat the Twente goalkeeper with an intelligent chip in the closing stages to put the match to bed.
Ajax knew that a win in the Amsterdam ArenA this Sunday would be enough to win the league as they trailed their opponents by only one-point.
Ajax briefly led the Eredivisie table in the opening weeks of the season, but had been chasing Twente and PSV for the majority of the campaign.
However, a superb run of form in the closing stages with wins over Heracles, Groningen, NEC, Excelsior, Heerenveen and Twente proved to be just enough to climb to top spot on matchday 34.
The title is the Godenzonen's 30th league win in history. They hadn't won the title since 2004.
