lel.....go watch over the 1999 treble winning team and let me know how much defense you saw from Beckham and Giggs

And how the fuck is that equal to suggesting that Deportivo had a better team than the incumbent Champions League champions?

Dude that's EPL. They were just told the following: "You go near the goal and look for headers, You go support him. You go out wide right son, you do the same on the left. You two stay in the middle because that's where we have some space left. The rest of you... DEFEND!"

You trying to define tactics on the basis of Fergie?

No. And excellent reported speech as well
I'm saying that the wingers can get 'round the back of the defense as much as they like as long as your fullback stay home.

As opposed to any other system with fullbacks and wingers? (4-3-3, 4-2-3-1)

If a winger is caught out of position in a 4-4-2, the other team can overload your fullbacks and maybe drag your CMs wide and create space in the middle.
It's vital, more than in any other system, to maintain the shape in a 4-4-2. Current Atletico, Sacchi's Milan, even Leicester this year have had success because they've been disciplined positionally in defense.

The wingers have much less defensive responsibilities when there's an extra mid to cover them, for example in a 4-3-3 (Barca and Messi).

Also Beckham and Giggs did a lot of running.
