I loved that movie even though it's a very modest production, and story goes kind of in a cliche... But they made quite the atmosphere

Could anyone recommend me movies/books with stories similar to The Count of Monte Cristo/The 3 Musketeers ?
As in books that follow a individual as he develops, could even say "from zero to hero"
I found the books lying around in my grandparent's old house and remembered how much I loved those books when I was little (The Count of Monte Cristo had a decent ecranisation and so far I only sorta' like the british musketeer series, I enjoy how they start on a path similar to those in the books and than deviate into different actions )

watched the impossible last night

cried through the entire movie...if i didn't have tears streaming down my face, they were welled up in my eyes

can't say i would necessarily recommend it...i guess only if you like movies about natural disasters

lots of shit to make you feel uncomfortable. At times it went too far with mental wanking(Bach, Bibel, Bond or whatever) for my liking. Sometimes got great thoughts to think about. Don't know one person I'd recommend this movie but an interesting experience.

It's ok, but it's predictable as fuck for those who read the comics; not 100% but enough to make it boring
I did enjoy the humour in the 1st hour, but after that it wasn't much

As usual nothing is as good as the original (or at least it seems that way), I'd rather see something new based on the OG idea and built up form that, creating new landmark moments and not using the old ones

I hope that in the next movie they'll stick to what made the comics special, the life of P Parker and how it conflicted with his life as SpiderMan (and the other way around), maybe use one of the lesser known stories (there are lots of villains in the spider man universe with great origin stories and ties to his personal life) with the chameleon, the vulture, kraven,Shocker, maybe Smythe (jr/sr), liz allen-molten man, Hammerhead, kingpin or mj vs blackcat....or beetle but he's is a bit too lame for a movie; but it'll probably be another venom/Carnage, doc oc one

I want to watch a tense thriller / horror / slasher. Any recommendations? Preferably from this year.
