Well you have to be more open in try to express your worries points into your Girlfriend; now the Important Question is : Do you still love your girlfriend or not? you need to distinguish between friendship and relationship, as in your case you have to settle your thoughts and feelings and then draw a form to your situation.

I'm not kind sure returning "as boyfriend" to your old friend that she experimenting a hard time in her life is a good Idea; she mostly need a friend "like you" to help her to pass this bad experience more than as boyfriend "Your intend".

Try to find out if it is possible to let your partner understand you more and open dialogue's tunnels between you and her.
