Could you please explain. Me the difference between GOAL AVERAGE & GOAL DIFFERENCE, I know what is Goal average but what about the goal difference, how could it balance when 2 teams have the same points, for exemple Milan & Juve has the exact point, but Milan is above Juve, is cauze Milan beat Juve 3-0 bigger gap than its lost 3-1 , lor beacause they have better Goal Average?
Not exactly sure what goal average is.
In Serie A, at the end of the season when we take a look at the tables, first thing to see to determine who is higher in the standings is total number of points collected. That is absolute.
In the case of teams with the same number of points, instead of taking a look at the overall goal difference first (like other leagues), the first thing Serie A looks at is the head-2-head record between the 2 (or more) teams with the same points. This makes it a mini table which looks at goal difference between the 2 (or more) teams first.
In our case with Juve, IF we end up on the same number of points at the end of the year, the first thing to look at is how many points were collected against each other. We both collected 3 points (1 win, 1 loss).
Next will be the number of goals scored vs each other (we scored 4 and conceded 3, so we are +1 and Juve are -1, in this stat we win).
In the case of Napoli v Juve, IF they end up on the same number of points, they check:
(1st) Points collected (Napoli 3, Juve 3)
(2nd) Goal difference of goals scored vs each other (Napoli 2, Juve 2: so +-0)
(3rd) Overall goal difference (Napoli 43, Juve 36, so Napoli wins)
So there's nothing about a goal average, but the league does focus firstly on results against each other before the overall league result.
