Wednesday 30 March, 2011 Abbiati: Leo disappointed Milan

Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati claims Leonardo disappointed the club by accepting the job to coach Merda in December.

Leonardo had spent 13 years at Milan as a player, director and tactician, but left at the end of last season after a fall out with Silvio Berlusconi.

Still, no one expected the former Brazil international to join rivals Merda and he is expected to get a warm reception in Saturday's eagerly anticipated Derby della Madonnina.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Abbiati said: “The fact that when he left he made us understand that he wouldn't be coaching the following year left me perplexed.

I think his passage to Merda has disappointed many Milan fans. Some of my teammates were also hurt by the decision.”

Fantastic performance. His saves were as important as Patos goals

Literally saved the game for us. If that goal had gone in, who knows what the outcome could have been.

Grazie Abbiati! :star:

One of the most under-rated goalkeepers in Serie A, let alone in other leagues. Nice work tonight Abi, thanks for saving our ass!

Sunday 3 April, 2011 Abbiati keeps his cool

Christian Abbiati explained his amazing save in the Milan derby and warned his teammates “the season has a long way to go.”

The Rossoneri beat rivals Inter 3-0 last night to open up a five-point lead at the top of the table.

Some would say Abbiati’s save on the Thiago Silva header before half-time, when it was still 1-0, was worth as much as a fourth goal.

It almost went in, but after my save Ignazio Abate did well to finally clear it,” said the goalkeeper.

I was also fortunate in that instance, as I just managed to get there in time. Alexandre Pato’s early goal was great for us, as it knocked the wind out of IMerda’s sails and we stepped on to the field with real determination.

“This victory certainly does not mean we’ve already won the Scudetto. It was an important match, and a derby, but there are seven games to go and many points still up for grabs.

“We must not give in, so instead keep trying to get a result in every match right to the end.”

Abbiati said this week that he was surprised Leotardo opted to cross San Siro to manage Merda. Would there be any ironic dedications to their former Coach?

I certainly wouldn’t. We celebrate for ourselves.

Milan arranged a deal for Abbiati to go to Juve since we accidently injured Buffon in a friendly. Plus, Dida was still world class at the time, one of the best keepers in the world.

The ties between Milan and Juve have always been good, and that bothers me. but I guess it has its certain advantages.:o

I understand that as a fan we would naturally think that, but he has been a bench warmer for three seasons even though he was quality. Cant blame him if he wants the chance to play...
