Come on folks, give me a break. Freedom of Speech and all that.
My friend was saying the other day that he couldn't think of any good black goalkeepers, I said 'what about Dida?', then he said that Dida wasn't black.
We then moved on to players of dark skin like Ronaldinho and Cafu and I just thought I'd get the opinions of people in the forum.
I never thought people would give me such grief.
Ok, he's black, you've answered my question, thank you.
Why do people get so edgy when you mention skin colour?
People sometimes assume I'm Spanish, I'm not, I'm Italian, but It doesn't annoy me, it's just an enquiry.
Goofy can't be a dog when you consider that Pluto is a dog and can't speak.
p.s. No drugs were used.
Well I don't think anyone was pissed with you, and we know that you were inquiring rather than to cause problems here, just that colour and race sometimes can be a serious issue among members, and we try to avoid that topic :)

Yeah, now you're talking! :)

Ric, I don't think anyone thought you were being racist or ignorant. I think you just threw people off by the way it was verbalized, the Disney comparison, etc. I think I read a similar topic on BigSoccer, in which people said the likes of Dinho, Ronaldo, etc. were considered brown rather than black. So it does make for an interesting debate.

I once saw a thread on soccergaming.tv that was called "Is it me or does Dida always look pissed off?" :)

Yeah, I suppose, in hindsight. it was a bit blunt.

But come to think of it Dida does look pissed off most of the time.

Pluto

Pluto is 100% canine -- a natural dog. He is friendly and loyal, with a simple nature and healthy curiosity. Fun-loving and playful, the full-grown Pluto has the spirit of a puppy. He is first and foremost a loyal companion, always there for Mickey, and eager to please. Pluto likes to be rewarded for a job well done. Though he craves approval and affection, Pluto is quite affectionate himself. Kindhearted Pluto is a “good boy” *– a faithful and true friend with real heart.

Goofy

Goofy is a good-natured, happy friend with a heart of gold. Ever cheerful and easygoing, the lovable Goof endears himself to everyone with his homespun charm. Though he may not always do things right, his mistakes are balanced by optimistic enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and his charmed good luck. Goofy is unfailingly loyal to his friends, a true gentleman, and a champion of good sportsmanship. His high spirits and good humor are inspirational, and no matter what Goofy gets himself into, he always manages to come up smiling.

anyway... how come nobody ever ask why a talkin' & walkin' mouse can have a regular normal dog as a pet?

Yeah, was way too easy. Angry photos of Dida are plentiful.

Sometimes people look moody even when they're not, I used to get that all the time. As if anyone has a natural smile on their face all the time. and If they did, you'd probably think they were a freak.

Disney has a lot of wird things, I mean, why does Donald wraps a towel around his waist after taking a bath when he never uses pants? Pluto and Goofey are just another part of that.

Let's go back to the main topic of this thread...Dida.

I can't believe that this conversation has gone from Dida's ManU performance to his ethnicity to Pluto and Goofy to Donald in a bath towel in a span of 24 hours. That's one reason why I love this site. :D

well to say he is pissed most of the time; I can only tell one thing - GKs tend to be tensed and serious throughout the game as the pressure is on them, when they concede goals, all they will be hoping for is for their team-mates to score to ease the pressure on them. I'm sure you've seen how Dida reacts when Kaka & Co scores - celebrating quietly to himself saying oh thank god!
When it comes to FKs, and "the -wall" didnt work it would make them pissed as you have also seen him shouting at them, "what the hell where you doing?"
I can empathize with him, as I've been in that position before, and when people throw nasty insults at him - it's really sad :head:

The strange part is, it's because of his personality that he's not very popular in his own country. After all, Brazilian football stars are expected to be like Dinho, flashy and outgoing, and he's neither.

This was when Kaka scored during the first leg at OT. He hardly ever really emotes like that after a score, but maybe his performance that night played a factor. http://images.teamtalk.com/07/04/190/Dida_218551.jpg

I think the fans were cheering him at Milanello, and whenever he touched the ball during the second leg, because perhaps they realized that someone had gone too far with the eBay prank. Their support definitely had an impact on his performance, and here's hoping that it's repeated at Athens.

For me he seems like a very concenrated player. Of course that's what all the keepers must be but he is something else. Always thinking of the job he has to do and concentrated on that. When he's in a penalty shoot-out he hardly celebrates a save when he knows it's not the end of the game.

His big eyes implicate to full concentration as well :D

jasper can i ask why "both" of my threads have been closed when only 1 refers to the final? dont u think it was a pertinant question as regards the disrespect aspect and it is the only thread on the subject ive seen, or is it just censorship?

You just posted in the wrong forum is all. 'Introductions' is clearly for...well, introductions, which was hardly the subject of either threads. There's an ongoing Milan - Liverpool one in the 'Matches' forum, in which you can contribute or ask questions, etc. especially since your question is, if anything, pertinent (which I don't think it truly is...or rather, I think it's a bit pointless) to it.

I planned to merge both of them with the final since there wouldn't be that much of discussion about "why disrespect lfc". I'll move it to Football subforum then since it has no connection with "Introductions". And if you have a personal question you can/should always use personal messages. I know you can do that;)

That's one thing I love about him; I still watch the '03 penalty shootout now and then, and, in contrast, still get a kick out of Buffon flipping out whenever he saved.

I guess he is the kinda, "I'm a quiet person, and want a quiet life, so leave me alone - type?"

Must have missed that celebration, didnt see that one

yeap it sure did give him the boost, saw him waving at the crowd during the fiore match, I guess they still believe he can pull-out another one like in 2003 against Juve (CL Final)
yeap I know late post alright

Not really; that's more like Barry Bonds. :)

I think instead he's more like the reticent-but-cooperative type who tries to stay unnoticed, but he doesn't spill his guts; too often he's such a dull interview. :) He was pretty open until after the 1-1 Samp draw last year; that's when the press started getting on his back something fierce.

Interestingly, three days after the ManU win, he made a public appearance at some fashion exhibition (anyone heard of MIDO?) and signed a few autographs; they plastered his face on a huge sign, which you can see in the background.

Pheww :)

Right, I have to admit - I'm not as good as you in judging him haha :D
But I guess, for me, staying unnoticed is better than those Brasilians (except Kaka and Co) who go wild and partying like theres no tomorrow, but of course as fans, we would like to see more of him right

Nope havent heard of MIDO (the player yeah)

Heh...I just saw an article on the Italian Google News; looks like it was some kind of combination of optometry/opthalmology exhibition and fashion show. MIDO is a manufacturer of pricey sunglasses (surprise! They're located in Milan, after all). :) Dida and Bobo Vieri were among many celebrity guests who showed up and signed autographs.

OT: On pricey sunglasses, I asked my bro to bring me metal framed Police aviators, when he was studying in Milan. He said, you are too small for them. I was 22.
