Last weekends game AZ - Heerenveen, 88th minute (cause of Euro 1988), complete stadium begins to clap, home and away fans, and sing Marco's name.

In a presser a few hours ago, Marco resigned as head coach from AZ.

However he will continue to be the assistant coach of the now promoted from assistant to head coach Alex Pastoor. He also said he will never be a head coach at any club again.

He's been struggling with physical problems due to stress (heart flutter) for some time and the death of his father worsened it. The stress of being a coach was too much for him.

So this turned out in a big drama.

Apparently the one who leaked the info about Marco wanting to resign due to health problems was the dude who was the assistant and was supposed to switch roles with Marco (Alex Pastoor). He supposedly wanted Marco out and drew chart flows with van Basten all the way at the bottom, said he wanted his parking space etc. Basically disrespecting Marco.

Now that guy is fired by AZ. A new head coach is appointed and Marco is now officialy assistant trainer. It feels/looks a bit weird to see him doing assistant work but apparently he feels a lot better health wise now that he's no longer responsible. Everyone inc. himself says he's happy again.
