Romagnoli is a sad case of being injured at the wrong time and coming back to a totally different team that now plays pressing football with a high defensive line.

He never was suited for that type of game...given his lack of speed/acceleration.

Having said that he was still probably the best player of our banter years and fully deserved the armband at the time he got it (unlike a certain capitano of ours lol)

He's looking a lot better this season and is still very very reliable when we have to sit back and absorb pressure.

Imo he doesn't deserve the hate he gets from rnb.

When did that happen?

Romagnoli was the only CB that stayed injury-free in Pioli's first 9 months.

He suffered a bad injury in July 2020 and returned in a bad shape several months later, but not to a different team.

Someone said Mike's return was more wanted/needed than Tomori's before the Sassuolo match and Tomori's absence had been covered by Romagnoli fairly well. The person probably thought the 4 conceded goals against Fiorentina were due to Tata being in goal. I can't recall who made the statement.

But the name does not really matter.

What matters here is we desperately need Tomori.

And to this professional Italian football player, I would recommend meditation for better self-awareness, mental stillness and equanimity.

Do something about your MENTAL FITNESS, dear Alessio.

the problem is this happens to him a lot, attackers just blow him out of his shoes waaay to often.
Otherwise he ll be a decent backup..:(

I can't understand how he managed to fall on his face that way. Did he forget he has hands to protect his face? It was even a slow movement, how did he lose his balance?

It's the worst fall I've ever seen from any professional athletes. Only grandparents fall this way.

He's not just slow when defending, he's also slow with all of his actions when building out from the back. He takes too long getting the ball from under his feet and picking out a pass. That limits him to a few passes either side of him. Whenever he does make a forward pass, he passes so late that the receiver of the pass is put in an uncomfortable position with the opposing player pressing them already breathing down their neck. He also can't ping accurate balls over the top like Simon. If this management is serious, they will not renew his contract.

Renew, a 3 year contract.
Depends on the salary. Mirabelli messed up with his renewal in 2018 and now he's apparently on €5m - €6m net. Considering we're dealing with Raiola behind the scenes, any discussion about a renewal should be difficult.

Regardless of the Romagnoli situation, Botman should be signed to replace him.

What a pass that was

He really upped his game in this aspect recently, noticed it even in the previous games. Pioli effect?

If he's smart, he'll renew even on a lower wage. Don't know if there's any club with a better overall mood now... and he still has time to improve and get a salary increase afterwards.
