has 1 year + a player option left. even if he didnt pick up the player option for a quicker pay bump it would be in his best interest to renew and 0 shot he goes away in free agency cause not a lotta teams have the cap space to pay him a max without bird rights + a lot less money

only the mavs coulda paid him the max amount of money, but the mav owners maybe didnt wanna pay him the supermax he was eligible for

getting traded hurts luka financially im pretty sure. full on tard move by the management, this is like an investigation-worthy trade. it makes no sense from a sporting pov and no matter how much they "save" on not having to pay him they'll lose more in revenue for having made their entire fanbase hate the org

and that's the craziest thing, like if you dont want to pay your guys and stay below all tax aprons. you could just trade him for picks and build a team full of young rookie scale contracts. this way they're gonna still have to pay AD for 2 years and then he'll leave for free. his trade value is so so much lower than luka. that's why the lack of picks in suicidal from the mavs

they traded a 10 year cornerstone, for a 2 year rental of a worse injury prone player with infinitely lower trade value and all they'll have to show for it in 2 years is a first round pick that's probably not even gonna be in the lottery cause lakers will have luka
