Cant completly blame him tbh, first penalty he was underpressure from both dzeko and hakan, but then he had option to backpass to tata
He got in that situation by himself, he had enough time to release the ball earlier...He chose not to, and relied on Ref giving him the foul. It was unnecessary to gamble in that situation

A shadow of last seasons player. This season his low footballing IQ has cost us in big matches. The two yellow cards against Athletico. The first foul dragging a player down in the middle of the park was ludicrous. Some would say the second yellow was harsh but those are given as yellows in Italy all the time so he should have known better. Definitely cost us the win in this game being down to 10 men. Last night his play leading up to the penalty was madness. Do anything but run into the penalty area with the ball. And to top the night off misses a sitter that would have won us the game. Showed no composure.

This season he is not worth his current salary let alone 8 million a year.

Dribble the ball into your own box like you can dribble over yourself thinking you'll be getting a 6m salary with performances like this.

just one thing.... ball moves fasters than players so pass it rather than carry, your gk was free there ready to kick it away - just saying

Besides his defensive errors this season, kind reminder that he contributes 0 in attack.

It was a point of Kessié himself didn’t know what was going on.
His awareness and concentration has dropped immensely. I hope Conte buys him in January.

After the Napoli match we should buy him a ticket for the next Travis Scott concert as a farewell gift.

Ben & K£$$ both invite pressure and when it comes they run back towards their own goal with the ball... dumb feckers!

If we're lucky.
The double pivot system saved his career because it limited his influence in attack.
But he still finds way to show up in the opponent's box to make clearances.

Becomes a passenger this season. Not into his usual self where he just moves with authority and advance the ball if with chance. He regressed mentally. So many fuck ups this season even though it’s not all his faults that the refs were blind.

People need to relax, players come and go and that will never change, he's made some mistakes sure but the disrespect is uncalled for.

When Pioli plays him at cam?
Not just on those occasions.
He wasn't supposed to be the CAM in the first minutes against Roma when he made this "clearance".

I can see why Pioli picks Kessie as a makeshift CAM at the end of games though.
It's for the same reasons as why he always has someone like Krunic or Saele in the front 4, even though they lack end product as well.
They press, they track back, they cover a lot of ground and they tend to release the ball quickly rather than dwelling on it like Paqueta.
Kessie is more assertive than Krunic in the box. He's better at getting into dangerous positions, but it's to our detriment since he's using those opportunities to make clearances.

Too much Kessie hate, despite the mistakes vs Inter and Atletico he's been one of our best players this season.

You're making it out to be like he's up there all the time, which he's not during the parts of the game when he's not CAM.
Huh? I said the double pivot system saved his career because it limited his influence in the final 3rd.
That does not imply that he was up there all the time. On the contrary, it implies that the damaging effect of this weakness of his had been greatly reduced to a point where it could be looked past.

But he has still found ways to get involved and ruin chances, as evidenced by that gif from the Roma game.
Not all the time. But it still happens.

I don't hate or love him, but I do agree that the forum has gone from one extreme to another.
He was not world class last season, and he's not inferior to Tonali this season.
He's still our best midfielder.

Was he in double pivot at Atalanta?
Its the Gattuso conundrum - their finishing is ludicrously poor but the rest of their game allows them to be present for many of those situations because the rest of the team isnt available for them as often for various reasons.

The lack of clarity on his choice though is only a distraction and whatever his decision he should state it publicly and then just give his all until.

in construction phase he played most of the time as middle defender with Kjaer and Tomori going wide
We've been doing this for a while now. We build up against teams with 2 attackers like this. We form a diamond around their 2 attackers and just play around them. Against 3 (or 1) attacker we don't do it as often, but against 2 (like Roma) we clearly do this pattern during our buildup. Kessie central, our CB split and Tonali in front of Kessie.

Maybe rnb's "world class", while goodfella use the term "world class" more conservatively.

He was, come on. He was easily one of the top 5 CM in the world last season.
He was one of the most in-form midfielders in the world last season. Great in our system, which is based on intensity, mobility, which he has.
But ability wise he has never been world class in my opinion.
He's too limited for that. You don't need to be a goalscorer to be a world class midfielder, but he doesn't have holding midfielder or playmaker qualities either.
Was he in double pivot at Atalanta?

Yes. Gasperini's pivots are even more attack-minded than Pioli's, but it's still highlighting Kessie's strengths.

I am not sure how he has been our best player this season. His been ok with the occassional mistake but no real match winning performance this year. Tonali has been a clear run away best player and even Bennacer has been better than Kessie. I think Kessie can be a player that lifts us to the next level which makes it bittersweet his actions of late.

Milan has to nip this sort of behaviour before it becomes a much greater problem if it is not already. Kessie can play til Africans Cup, then we sell him or drop him. Bring back Pobega or Adil and let them take his place. I have no problem from having him not play in the team for the rest of the season after the new year.
