Not to fuzzed about Abate going to Genoa. I think he improved alot during the last season imo, and became a pretty good RB, he's still very young and could still become a very good RB. Remember full backs have an odd tendency to bloom very late.

I wouldn't give up on him. I know his second half of the season and this friendlies haven't been positive, specially compared to what he showed at the first half of last season, but it's partly due because he had to adapt himself as an RB. I would dare to say that it's also cause he tried to work more on his defense (truth is, IMO, Inter mistake apart, he didn't do badly there, he wasn't a superstar, but I mean seeing how regularly awful our fullbacks have been in defense), which he basically didn't do as an RW. And it's likely that focusing in this made him lose explosivity attacking-as opposed to what Antonini showed- (which he had, he was if not the best among the best at crossing in Serie A when he was with Torino). Though I do hope that if he stays a position is stablished for him to play most of his games, weather it is a RW, or a RB.

Sidenote: Interesting how I feel Antonini has been mediocre at defending, but good at attacking, while Abate has been good at defending but mediocre attacking. Yet no one bashes Antonini for that

I don't want to see Abate go.. he is milan 100% through and through and I don't know why but I have a lot of faith that he will be a great RB for us soon as long as allegri actually plays him there like leo did. janku+cash = great... bonera+cash = great.... abate+cash = stupid.

Al doesn't even play him at RB at all. So far it's all either Zambrotta or Papa or even Bonera. Abate always came on as a mid and was decent/average there.

Our RB hierarchy right now is more like : Papa, Zambrotta,Bonera
LB : Antonini, Zambrotta

So even Abate+Janko without any cash is fine for me.

T.Silva goin anywhere cos of anyone coming here is a no for me. that's it.

We all love Abate, but if a better player is coming who'll help us, it's fine.

Dream is Genoa taking Janko+Kalaze+Oddo for Bochetti. :D

Yup totally agree. I dont want Abate to go anywhere. He should be getting quite a bit of playing time for us as a RB.

I would sell. Obviously I'd try to offload Kaladze, Oddo, Jankulovski, and Bonera first, but if Genoa ask for Abate then I'd give him up.

He is passionate and fast, but he really lacks a lot of intelligence. Also, I fail to find a good position for him. At right back, he just runs and runs, while his crossing isn't good. At right midfield, he looked lost; and he's not calm enough to play upfront as a right winger. Obviously, he could develop well with age and keeping him would be a fine choice. However, letting him go wouldn't be the end of the world.

I think Allegri should decide whether its easier to improve his crossing or his shooting. And that should settle whether he plays a right back or a right winger.

Abate made one high profile mistake against Inter, and after that he lost his confidence and thus his form. Though you are right, I have never been convinced with Antonini defensively, but currently he is our best option at fullback. Zambrotta is in with a shout but he can't play a full season.

Abate... Milan's version of Walcott. Can do fuck all else other than run.

I Agree in The Pre Season Abate Has Not Played At All In The Back. Although He Is More Comfortable In The MF ( He Played That At Torino). I Just Don't See Him In Our Mid-Field Especially Since He Doesn't Control Or Pass Well Yet. His Crosses Need Work Also. He Played Decent Last Term But Yet And Still This Is AC MILAN ! We Need A Bona fied RB or MF... Although I Love His Speed ! So If He's Bait For A Solidified Talent At Either Position, I Would Sacrafice His Speed...

FORZA MILAN !

Jokes aside, I see potential in Abate. Mostly because he shows heart on the pitch. I'm well aware of his flaws, but he can work on them, if we give him some time he can turn out good.

But Allegri though doesn't seem to have much faith in him...

He's improved a truckload defensively. I guess he's still weary in the mind not wanting to give away important goals like the one against MERDA, and thats why he seems more focused defensively + hardly contributes to the attack. I think its a work in progress ... as soon as he's comfortable with the role defensively, we'll begin to see him push forward more and more.

He's got the pace and stamina that would be required for a fullback ... now if he can improve on his control and mostly crossing ability, I think he'll be our best RB.

Keep up the good work!

He does have a easier job than anton...how many attacks started from the left ...obviously teams know its our weakness...because most of the time they only have anton and zambro to contend with .... our rcm was flamini so i'd like to see him truly tested ...but promise is there ,just something missing to make him certified starter

To be honest, a lot of Antonini's attacking prowess is down to the system we play ... always taking the ball to the left towards Dinho. The right flank never gets this much attention/focus, and so Abate's not as fortunate as Antonini in this regard IMO.

However, defensively, I think its rather clear who looked more solid and focused. I come from the notion that a fullback should be a good defender first and foremost. If Abate continues to improve, then he could be something in the future.

Obviously both flanks can't leave but I don't share this opinion in general. The team just looks at the flank more competent in going forward. When Antonini or Zambrotta have played on the right flank they have looked better attack-wise.

What is to Antonini's favour is Dinho. With Dinho it's obviously easier to combine than with Hunter/Gattuso. Also when Abate has been in midfield he can't do much better than Huntelaar/Gattuso supporting right-back.

abate must play on RB cus we realy dont have many options with FB; only 3 we have. and if we plan the futire, abate should definitly start over zambrotta. (oddo & janku are out)

But Zambrotta looks much better than him this year. There's no point playing a worse player simply due to age. We might aswell drop Pirlo and play Maldini's son. Then drop Pato and play Ganz's son. Then drop Nesta and play Maldini's other son.

This is a terrible thing. In moderation it's a great idea and would prepare them for the future. But play someone who is worse just because of age is ridiculous.

Zambro has been awesome in the preseason and was one of the only good players for Italy at the WC. He can't play every game though, so I think Abate should start most games against smaller teams and then Zambro will be rested for the most important matches.
I think Abate can become a very good RB, but I trust Zambro more at the moment for big games.

No. Zambro is okay, Abate sucks. Zambro >> Abate

In every way but age and pace.

Zambro should be played against big sides and in important games. Abate should be played against teams which will be open and he can use his pace. The only thing he can do is touch it past the LB and run on and deliver a terrible cross. That is all his game. Zambrotta can do much more and is experienced. I would take Zambro over Abate anyday.

No. The last sentence describe someone with sense. I don't need to be a clairvuoyant to know that Zambrotta is much more effective than Abate now.

good post... abate and pato will learn o combine more, but dinho is a player who gets people into the game and combines well with everyone so its obviously easier for luca to play on dinho's side than for abate to play on patos side as pato isn't the best with combining... that being said tho, i have faith in abate as his defence is good already but still needs some work obviously and his attacking will come... also, if we do sign camo, whenever we have a midfield injury and camo plays in mid it will be a lot easier for abate to combine with camo and pato as opposed to gattuso/flamini and pato

screw camo ...we need to place faith in our youngsters

i agree and itd be better to have a guy like verdi as opposed to bringing in camo, but if they will straight swap kala for camo as is rumored how is that a bad deal at all???? kala doesn't do jack shit, at least camo could help as a backup and it would be a straight swap with no cash involved... so please i am not saying we should go out of our way to get camo, but a straight swap? hell yes.
