No, for sure. I agree that it didn't work out as planned before that season started.
But just in terms of quality, it's funny to think of our "top players" now.

4 years ago, if someone was to say that Menez would be our star in 2015, I would have told them to fuck off.

Abate should definitely get a renewel and continue as our starting rb unless mattia steps up.

No need spending money on this area. It's one we actually have good options in.

Are we talking about assists to his own team mates or the opposition ?

His assist stats to his own team are pathetic tbh... sounds harsh but it's the truth. To make it even worse he used to be a winger

If we expect to rise again we can't be blind to the ineffective play which ignazio brings.

He does have plenty of pace... of that there is no doubt But he has no idea on how to use it in the offensive third. The term headless chicken comes to mind.

Kind of a shame tbh.... I thought he would have developed into a top RB or wingback.

Also any full back today makes mistakes and looking at other teams. Much more often than abate does.

If you tell me we can get someone definitely better. Sure. But until then I wouldn't dream of selling or letting abate go.

1) He doesn't really run past that many players.... one of my main beefs with him considering he has got pace to burn

2) Dani Alves is better than him... miles ahead and he is free

Or we could move Rami to RB once we get a top CB

3) He offers very little to be honest and gets far too much credit for that imo.

All that aside.... my main crititcism of him is his lack of intelligence on the ball. He personifies perfectly what Milan are. Clueless. the fact that not many can see it is kinda alarming.

The sad thing is even if we sell him we're not going to get much ,.... i remember reading reports long time ago city wanted him for 25M

Honestly im not so sure about Alves and think that defensively he would be a downgrade to Abate. But i could be wrong, i dont watch him enough to say.

Abate is clueless, he is. Everyone can see it when he has the ball, but he can do one thing, and it cant be stopped if he does it right.

Burst at pace from a stop kicking the ball a little further ahead before putting in a cross. And when he delivers it low and hard along the ground, we have had very good chances.

There is no way Id put Rami at right back, its like bonera, defensively more solid. But slow and also is prone to the odd mistake. But for them, they cant recover where Abate can.

Pace as a fullback is essential. Think of every winger. If they attack a slow fullback they will destroy them.

Improve the centre and the midfield, Abate will be a lot better and do just as well as anyone else in my opinion.

Plus as far as alves goes, age, wage and reminded me of Zambro. Will be good possibly then quickly become another player to get rid off.

Im not against his signing, but also sure its nothing but another quick fix to an area less in need of fixing.

Definitely not an issue or point of concern. These debates are so pointless. We need a top class midfielder, a top class CB, and a top class striker. Our side backs are fine. With Abate, Antonelli, and DES (hoping he comes good) we're fine, plus Rami and Boner can sub there if need be, definitely not even close to our main issue. We don't need an expensive wage like Alves on our books. He'll be a minor upgrade for maybe a year, and only in an attacking sense, definitely not defensively.

i don't know why, but i've never thought badly about abate for very long. true he is not a "smart" player, but physically he is quick and has stamina that a lot of our players do not have

when surrounded by good defensive players, abate is not such a liability. but with such a weak defense this season, his flaws are easier to point out

wouldn't be mad if he stayed...i also wouldn't be too upset if he left, as long as DES was moved from LB to RB then

I never saw any of Abates crosses ( at the height of knees) be any dangerous to opponents, but everybody can have an opinion.
It's a phenomena to be able to deliver a good cross only 3/4 per season.

He did fine this season , defensively solid most of the time , improved offensively.

7 assists this season with no real CF to play with.

Aside from crosses , he had a lot of very good passes this season that his teammates didn't capitalize on.
