I was never an Abate hater, just critical, and particularly wanted Allegri to use him in this match and was pleased that he did. In my opinion I sensed improvement in the couple of matches he played this season. He looked like he wasn't as distorted as he was last year, he still makes mistakes though and our midfield covered for him yesterday but unlike Zambrotta, Bonera, Oddo, etc he actually goes to make challenges and puts pressure on the players with the ball. Look at Zambrotta, Bonera and the likes for the last matches all their defensive skills mean nothing because they never get near the wingers or forwards.

No harm in him starting, if he had competition, then maybe, but with such players competing with him, he should definitely start. Plus he might not have the best crosses but he can cross a million times, and a very good number of those must be goal-scoring chances.

Also want to make this clear!.

that picture is gross..please, refrain from posting disturbing, nightmare inducing pictures.thanks much..on to abate..i heard he did fairly well during the Real match, didnt get to see the whole thing tho..it makes it hard on him and as a whole team when he barely gets match time, and then gets thrown into a CL clash..would like to keep abate and see him become something solid at the RB position with his speed and pace ability..

thats great to hear..i would like for him to consistently play at the RB role that way he can get better accustomed to playing that role..as said he has the speed/pace to play it, he just needs to work on his crosses..

So true, but his crosses against juventus were quite decent. He has defo improved a LOT since last season and I must say I'm impressed and hoping for him to be a starter at RB.

agreed..he has great potential and showed it when he was loaned out for us, then Leo. was smart and wanted him back and had great ideas for him, playing him at RB, as he had never before hand playing that role..he was always in midfield, and did good for the transition..having abate-nesta-T.33-antonini/cisso. would be a solid back line..including throwing Papa. in there when need be..

better and better, biggest test will be Inter though, last year he was poor in that match, if he can handle the pressure this time, he will definitely prove he can become a regular. He looks much less headless than Antonini.

Abate handled the pressure well against CR and Real, so I'm sure he can handle the pressure of the derby too, even though he was bad there last season, but I think he is better now.
I would like to have Abate as permanent RB if he continues with the good performances, he's young and shouldn't be wasted on the bench when he has the potential to turn into something great. Def. should start now most of the matches, at least as long as he plays that good.

I think he needs time and Allegri should choose the better tactical option. Cosidering the fact that he was told he would play in midfield this season I rather him to establish this season and become a proper RB for our future.

really... he wasn't even that bad v. inter last year when they won 2-0. he made 1 bad (yes it was very bad)mistake where his header wasn't powerful enough and luckily hit milito's leg and fell perfectly into stride gifting inter the opener. for most of the match he was pretty good as i remember, not great, but not as atrocious as everybody makes it seem. That mistake is all people remember, which is fine and deserved I guess, but it wasn't like he was a horror show in that match as some of you guys portray. It was like robinho today... binho actually played very well, but his finishing was a joke and so people (including myself until i watched some replays back) thought he blew ass today... same thing with abate v. inter last year.

to be honest in Madrid match he did play very well but Gattuso and sometimes Boateng were helping him around every time Ronaldo tried to do anything past that flank. I am sure he would have looked more shaky had Gattuso not supported him that much.

I heard Tassoti personally trained him to stop C.R in that Madrid match. Abate is getting better, especially on the offense. His speed is still his main power in defending, but at times leaves too much space to opponents.

it's not just to stop CR, but to improve defence imho.
cus that's would make him better FB, not just winger like in spain. it's italy here and we need FB who can defend, not only attack.:star:

Not only in Italy, but I think the best fullbacks have always been those that both attack and defend well. Abate's pretty solid defensively ... maybe a few more seasons for him to get more accustomed to the role, but he even looked solid for most parts of last season.

Its going forward were he has a lot of improving to do. For example, against Bari, I would have expected our fullbacks to push up given our opponents + the fact that we played with 3 DMs.

Tassotti is the man. Played in the best defense to ever grace the earth so I'd expect him to give Abate some good pointers.

Great job then, Tassotti. I like this season's Abate. IMO our best full back at the moment followed by Zambrotta. Antonini? Nah, last season he was our best full back (followed by Zambrotta), but not this season. (so far)

if abate is going to become a regular for us at RB, then i have no issues with that at all..i fully expect him with more playing time, to become a very solid RB..he just needs to work on his crosses into the box now..
