@ Savo, I wouldn't call him the best, yet. He'll definitely get there if he continues to develop the way he has this season, he just needs to become better offensively (not saying he's bad, but he needs to be more of a threat if we're gonna rank him as one of the best, the assist in the derby was a good start.). I just hope that he himself doesn't think he's the best yet, I want him to continue with the same attitude and fight his heart out.

And about the nicknames you guys are trying to give him, they're all lame let it come naturally.

abate is continuing to improve his game and i like what i'm seeing. he should give a few tips to merkel about the mental part of the game cuz i think abate, has had problems there, and merkel seems to have problems there too.

but now abate seems to have overcome them, and now just needs to continue focusing on his game and technique, and rly give his all in training sessions and he'll become a really good fb soon.

abate did very well yesterday and didnt rly burn zanetti, but got past him a few times, slowly and steadily.

As long as he patiently improves just like Abate did Merkel will be our first team player season after next- remember I was right about majority of our signings and Abate role too.
I think it must be hard for a young player in a team with no recent tradition in trusting in young players to go amd compete for the spot against great players.
This season he got considerably lot of playing time.
Next season he will be a regular substitute and season next first choice player.
We seriously need to give some time to our defenders and there is Verdi and Strasser too.

I'd give him maybe 2 years until he is consistently starting. I think he just needs to bulk up a bit and get some muscle and improve in defence and he will be great.

Next time he must be callep up for the NT, don't have a clue why he's been ignored so far, Abate is best Italian RB atm, he has to play in the NT.

He already improved last year when he first played as RB, but what he did this season is simply amazing, HUGE improvement, positioning/defending/passing/crosses/attacking, everything got better. Ignazio still has some work to do to be WC, but he has what it takes to get there imo, I strongly believe in him

To be fair tho, I think his abysmal form last year was mostly due to Leo's tactical noobness and inability to comprehend the word 'defense'. Our backline was constantly left to fend for themselves and for a player who just started playing for a club such as Milan and that too in a completely unfamiliar position, it certainly didnt bode well. After all, even the likes of Nesta was made to look like a joke....

YEah but this new system seems to have a paradox effect on antonini who doesnt seem to understand the basics of defending anymore.

Nesta was bad vs united in SS, dont remember him looking like a ''joke'' anywhere else though.

I suppose once we dont have Janku, Kala, Zambro, Oddo and Gooch to pay for after the next couple of windows we can start to pay the actual best defenders what they are due... I hope Silva gets a pay rise, not that will stop the rumours of him going to Spain or the EPL.

I cant see Abate leaving anytime soon, him and Silva are the backbone of the next great Milan defence I hope

I thought it was a cross to pato when I was watching the match but then seconded guessed it thinking it was just a god awful shot..looked like he lost balance when attempting the shot if I remember correctly..either way he needs to work on shooting and crossing because with each game he gets closer and closer into or around the box for a possible scoring chance..

Edit: it was also a good heads up play by pato too knowing that he could score being in that spot..good instinct..

His speed and pace control is some of the best in all of football at the Right back position..all he needs now is some call ups to the NT which is soon to happen or prandelli is a lunatic..
