He makes a very good point,dida does not deserve that much ,while Maldini does deserve lets say 2 mil...dida 4 mil is ludacris,for the last 2 seasons when he was just a shadow of dida 2003/2004.

I'm not overly pleased about this. I don't mind Maldini staying in a lesser role but I think this was our chance to move on from the past and begin fresh again. Also we won't get a young quality defender because Maldini is staying. Hopefully he isn't a starter because maybe while he can still play the game he won't be able to cut it at the top without embarassing himself on more than one occassion. Which would be sad to see happen to player as great as Maldini.

so for LB we have zambrotta (31) who management prefers @ rb. Maldini (will be 40) who really cant play wide anymore and is better suited at CB. Kalatze (30) who is better at CB. Janku (31) who excels at getting injured. and favalli (36) who is just not very good...............

no in my opinion we will defonatly sign a 1 defender at least, we simply cannot have cafu and serginho and possibly simic leave, maldini becoming too old to see out a whole campaign in a first team position

however maldini wouldnt embarass himself, he would just get exposed in leg-races, he hasnt lost ability to read the game and make tackles, just athletically he will lose out

defnatly want a center back and prehaps a left back

Zambro will start on the left with Maldini/Favalli as subs. Oddo on the right with Bonera as a sub, and Zabro if no-one is available. In the centre, Nesta and Kaladze, with Maldini and Bonera acting if need be. Janku can play both sides also.

We need a new central defender, and without an injury crisis, we should be fine.

I am glad that he will play another season. The way I see it, with everything that he has done for the club, Maldini can stay with the team as long as he wants to. But only as a back up, nothing more. His contract extension should not be taken as another "we're still okay at the back" position by the management.

Milan has been known to be loyal to their old guards and rewarding Maldini with 1 season contract extension seemed like the right thing to do. After all, he holds the record for the most appearance in Milan history.

he played at CB vs arsenal so its not stupid, i think away he played center because nesta went off injured, and at home he played out on the left and was substituted eventually, he played much better in the center and he always has since he became old

He played most of the game at left back and was our best player away.

At home he played all of the game at left back and again was probably our best player - and he wasn't substituted.

While i agree he is now a centre back he is still half decent at left back, better than Favalli anyway.

maldini's contract extension means one defender less. i'm not too excited about it. i'm happy for the his sake and for the sake of milan but i think baldie will have one more excuse for not bringing new defender(s).
