OH YEAH!!!:star:

I'll be glued to the tv or a stream when that takes place.

from acmilan.com

PAOLO MALDINI: "National team? I would like it"
2/3/2009
MILAN - This afternoon, just before the afternoon training, Paolo Maldini answered a question from Milan Channel on his eventual return to the national team for one last match: "Yes, I would like that. It would not be an actual return to the national team, but a chance to celebrate a long career with the Azzurri shirt, that's why I would like it."

PAOLO MALDINI: "The Azzurri calendar is still very full"
2/3/2009
MILAN - The Milan captain continued: "It's something that came spontaneously, I did not know anything about it, if and when I will participate to this match is a decision that should be made by someone else, also considering that the calendar is very full and that coach Lippi has to take into consideration first of all the team's needs."

Paolo Eager For Final Azzurri Appearence - Cesare Maldini

Paolo Maldini's father Cesare says his son is more than happy to make a final appearence with Italy, but thinks it can't happen in the upcoming friendly against Brazil.

Former Milan captain and Italy coach Cesare Maldini spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss about his son Paolo's possible farewell match with the Azzurri.

A fortnight ago Goal.com, launched a campaign for the former Italy captain to make one final appearence for his country before retiring.

"It's a bit difficult that Paolo will appear for the national team in the friendly against Brazil," he said. "My son has already spoken with [Italy coach Marcello] Lippi and he is willing to play a goodbye match with the national team, but not for the match against the South Americans.

"Marcello and Paolo will try to agree on a possible date, perhaps just before the Confederations Cup."

He then went on to talk about the Milan derby next week: "The Milan derby will be special as always, Milan can't fail this match. And Inter, going by what I have read about them, are preparing very well for this event. It will be a great match, and important for the Scudetto race."

Tonight Inter stretched their lead to eight points following their 3-0 win at Lecce and Milan's 1-1 home draw against Reggina

Blog: Paolo’s past it
Some are calling for Paolo Maldini to be given one more cap out of sentimentality. Steve Wilson doesn’t agree when the defence of the World Cup is drawing so close

I am generally a sentimental man when it comes to football. I like to see the underdog win, the old veteran lift the Cup in his final game or the teenage debutant scoring for his hometown club. However, I am not buying into the suggestion that Marcello Lippi should give Paolo Maldini an international send-off, or the even more ludicrous proposal that he should be taken to the Confederations Cup.

Eagle-eyed readers of Calcio Italia may remember a while back an article I penned claiming that the Azzurri should use one of their dead rubber qualifiers for World Cup 2006 to give first caps to players like Eugenio Corini and Paolo Di Canio, or sentimental recalls for the likes of Roberto Baggio. In hindsight, that was a nice, quaint idea, but it would have been a totally irresponsible one had the FIGC sanctioned it.

Italy are World Champions, but even the most staunch tifosi would have a hard argument of claiming that La Nazionale are still No 1. The FIFA rankings say Spain and Euro 2008 responded with the same answer. Defending the golden goblet in South Africa is not going to be an easy task. The last thing Marcello Lippi needs is an added selection headache, or to waste an important match by turning it into a media circus.

Some may say drafting Maldini into the Confederations Cup squad will give him a fitting send-off and allow young internationals to learn from him. Is that not an insult to the likes of Fabio Cannavaro? Correct me if I am wrong, but the current Azzurri skipper actually won his World Cup Final. And if an international player still feels he needs to be learning from his peers like a schoolboy then he doesn’t have the self-belief to be a winner.

Each qualifier and each friendly between now and next June must be used to gel the players together into a cohesive and all-conquering unit. There can be no place for distraction. Not now and not in the summer at the Confederations Cup. Sure give Maldini a Milan v Italy testimonial match at San Siro at the end of the season, but let’s not compromise Italy’s future or the man himself. I’m sure the last thing he wants is to be pushed centre-stage.

Personally, I dont like the idea of his last match ever being for Italy. I think he can get a last cap, but his FINAL match can only be with Milan.

I think the person who wrote that Article is a Inter fan who is upset that there 'Il Capitano' is not as good, and never will be as good as ours.

I agree with somebody above, Paolo should play his last game for Italy before he plays his last game for Milan.

this "football lover" is a moron who doesnt deserve to have his article on milan forum!! Clown!

Ask Cannavaro what does he think about maldini. Im sure all the players of Azzuri want Paolo to play another last game for Italy. To "compromise the future, bla,bla..." what the hell is this idiot talking about? Who is this guy anyhow?? Ridiculous.

Forza il Capitano! Bandiera!

Baresi also

defensive masterclass :proud:

At 34 years of age, Franco Baresi's dream of winning the World Cup as captain lay in tatters as he limped off the field against Norway in the first round with a knee-injury. Surgery was needed. The Milan-legend made a remarkable recovery and was declared fit on the day of the Final. Coach Arrigo Sacchi did not hesitate but added his captain to the starting line-up against the mighty Brazil with Romario/Bebeto up front. Baresi responded with one of the finest World Cup performances by a defender ever. He did everything right.

- 2 : 23 :proud: moment

Baresi and Maldini - the undisputed greatest defenders ever

No one said a damn thing about Paolo playing in the Confederations Cup, just one game for the Azzurri before retiring. Is that asking too much Stevie? :o

Fire up, Lisa!!
Steve is a plain clueless toe rag who has no credibility in football to make comments of those sorts.

It's going to be an emotionally charged derby the lads have to get up for this one and do it to keep our dream alive as well as do it one last time for Paolo.

I can't wait. Nothing fills me with more anxiety than a Milan derby. It's very special. With Maicon a possible absentee is definitely a massive boost.

Unfortunately, Paolo had to get robbed of a victory today. The gesture the Inter fans made at the start of the match is a testiment to the player himself.

Forza Paolo!
