Rui Costa set for Benfica

Manuel Rui Costa will bring his Milan career to an end in favour of a return to Benfica this summer, according to reports.

Although the attacking midfielder’s contract with the Rossoneri doesn’t expire until June 2007, sources suggest that he will move back to his homeland next season.

Rui Costa has made no secret of the fact that he has always wanted to end his playing days with the Lisbon outfit.

Benfica are now said to be ready to make that happen after another frustrating season for the Portuguese ace in Italy.

The 34-year-old is now a regular on the San Siro bench given the impact made by Kaka since his arrival three seasons ago.

Rui Costa spent three years with Benfica before he moved to Serie A in 1994 when Fiorentina netted his services.

The playmaker performed for seven years at the Stadio Artemio Franchi until Milan swooped at the end of the 2000-01 campaign.

Yes, I've seen him play. He's one of the best Croatia has today.
Perfect control, great dribbling technique, very confident with the ball, a true organizator. Only thing he's lacking I think and that's what his dad (Zlatko-the manager of Croatia says too) is the speed, he's not that fast. Probably has to lose a bit of kg's, not too much thou

Rui Costa one of the nicest blokes around who play the game. At Fiorentina argueably the best player maker in the world.
It might as well be Rui Costa's last season at the San Siro, as he stated he wants to go to his homeland to finish his career and at 34 aint getting any younger. Contract expires in 2007 so if we sell him prior to that we can get atleast 1m-5m for him, though Milan never sells its players unless they want to be sold.
Also with the success Benfica have had this season in the CL Rui might fansy his chances.

His information in this link not bad, but Coratian League is weaker than Italain League. I don't think he is a good sub to replace Rui Costa.

It's too bad he'll be leaving Milan, but sometimes you gotta do what you've gotta do. If nothing else, his timing isn't too shabby, given Benfica's hot form in the CL right now. That's got to be a bit of a morale booster right there.

well if I'm not mistaken, there was a point earlier on that he wanted to move i guess the start of this season. but decided to carry on instead...still not seeing him play so regularly pains me!!

People shedding tears over his departure have not followed his career too closely for the past 3-4 years. He cost us £28m + wages, + the only period during which he offered performance was a short 3 months or so in late 2002. We had to accelerate Kaka's transfer because Rui was a shadow of the player he used to be + simply wouldn't get his shit together.

Honestly......... it's about time Milan start removing the deadwood.
