Emerson is amazing at looking like he’s doing something without actually doing anything.

He puts his hand up to show how free he is.

He makes 1-2 passes when there is no space to run into.

He makes random no-look passes for no reason.

He sprints with purpose just to cut it back for the easy pass.

He does body feints that fool no one.

He does 5 stepovers when there’s no prospects of going forward.

Emerson truly is a jack of all trades.

I think he was decent going forward. Has a lot more to his repertoire than Calabria.

He did get cooked one v one with Boniface. But that was mostly against the run of play, in the second half after they scored. Before that they were carving straight through the middle. I didnt really get bothered by him.

That first half i was more disappointed with how wasteful we were with that little possession we had. Several miss-placed passes, rushed play, etc.

Just showed we dont have an answer to high press yet. Liverpool cooked us the sane way. If you drill that, the players know who to send the ball to after winning it back. We didnt know what to do with the ball in the first half. They suffocated us.

we gonna have maybe 3 points after 4 games, halfway thru the league stage.. doesnt look too encouraging

Realistically, since the draw we knew that Liverpool Leverkusen and Real were going to be our hardest matches. Walking away with 0 from three would be disappointing.

Just shows this team needs more time. Seems like a hard transition year. Let’s see how quick we get there but to me we’re more of a top 4 team with an outside chance for the scudetto rather than a hard contender.

Yeah, I agree. I didn't look at the stats, but it felt like they were mainly attacking through our left side with Frimpong, especially in the first half. Even the goal came from there with Frimpong left completely unmarked to assist Boniface. Emerson wasn't as bad as people make him out to be.

Then again, Boniface is a monster who eats defenders alive. A more agile and technical version of Lukaku. I don't think the story would have been that different if you put Kalulu there, for example.

We didn’t play a bad match

I just don’t like Emerson or Cheeks.

I can tolerate Emerson cause sadly he’s our best RB but I wish we only play Cheeks in small matches or when we have injuries.

Overall, we are growing and this is good.

Milan needed 3 points from Liverpool/Leverkusen/Madrid so a draw wouldn't really have changed anything. Looks like Milan is destined for the playoff or w/e it's called

I didn't think the game was that bad. Leverkusen are a top top team and Milan did well for large portions. If you play this matchup a year ago the side probably gets battered 5-0 so I'll take this as progress

so far we've only struggled against teams that have pressed too high, or sat too low, or overloaded the midfield, or overloaded the wings. once we figure out how to play against those 4 types of teams we'll be unstoppable

Bayer Leverkusen-Milan, Fonseca's post-match comments The Portuguese coach began: "We didn't win, but it's the match I've enjoyed the most since I've been here. We played very well in the second half. We are disappointed with the result but we have to be good to understand for the match we played.”

Fonseca went on to comment on the contact against Loftus-Cheek: 'When you have a situation like that, you have to at least look at the VAR. For me it was a penalty.”

The Rossoneri coach concluded: 'They created problems with combinations on the right flank: in the difficulties we defended well.”

Bad faith but ill take the bait. I think we’re doing a lot better against the other three. We put 4 and 3 past each Venezia and Lecce that sit deep. Even Leverkusen sitting deep was a mistake by them. We went from 1 shot to 14 after they changed that.

Inter overloads midfield, we did decent against them.

Only times we’ve looked completely outplayed was against Liverpool and in the first half today. Both high press. Also conceded two from Lazio when they played a higher press.

Fonseca spoke to Sky after the full-time whistle to try and make sense of what was a night full of action but unfortunately not yielding any points. MilanNews relayed his comments.

How do you judge the performance?

“The performance I liked the most this season since I’ve been here. Mainly in the second half we played a fantastic game, we created a lot and it wasn’t easy against a team like Bayer Leverkusen.

“We’re sad, disappointed but we also have to be balanced and understand what we did. And I’m satisfied not for the result, but for the courage and how we played.”

Do you think it was a penalty late on?

“For me the strange thing is that VAR didn’t intervene. For me it’s a penalty. They didn’t even look at the situation. But I felt during the match that the referee had no doubts about going against us. I don’t like talking about referees, I don’t want it to be an excuse but we feel these things.”

Did Bayer Leverkusen offer what you expected?

“I think Bayer have a very strong positional game. In the first half it was very difficult, we closed the spaces but then they created problems with the combinations on the right corridor. It was difficult but in the difficulties we defended well.”

Do you think they targeted your left side?

“We had more problems in the first half on the right. It’s true that it’s difficult to get Rafa to help Theo but I think we suffered more on the right.”

All you need is 8-9 points for the playoff

Pretty doable given the strength of opposition left after those 3

I'm not as concerned about the strength of the other teams as I am about the weaknesses of this one.

Nothing about this team screams guaranteed points vs the likes of Dinamo Zagreb, Red Star Belgrade or Club Brugge.

Fonseca is the man. The important thing is progress and looking dangerous through our buildup and overall play instead of being reliant on 1-2 players to make something happen. We are forming an identity and the defence is improving. Trust the process.

I'm beginning to worry about Fofana/Tiji - we have no alternatives for them. When we play these sort of games, like tonight with 3 mids, we have only one mid available for rotation (Musah). Even if Bennacer was fine, it still wouldn't be enough. Fofana is getting better every game (was excellent today imo), he and Reijnders are virtually irreplaceble. The drop off between them and Musah/RLC is huge!

Yeah i liked Kalulu but theres a reason why he mostly plays cb these days. Only thing in his repertoire going forward was that nice early cross.

I agree that hes not what we’re missing rn. Especially considering how Fonseca wants to play with Fofana dropping between the centers.

Thankfully Milan can register/purchase new players before the final two CL fixtures

Let's hope they can avoid injury until then

Youre right. You never know in CL. Liverpool and Leverkusen is one thing, but you might even drop points against 4th pot teams like Monaco.

Don’t get your hopes up. Milan is never sniffing another CL title as is. Those glory days are over. They lost to Bayer just imagine what will happen with big clubs that throws millions around like it’s nothing. Just be happy to participate and make it into the knockout rounds if possible.
