Rafael needs to take penalties. We need him to win ballondor next year.

My sentiment last year was pioli would turn all of our green shoots into oaks.

Now
IiK121.gif

I was talking dirty about cdk/Adli combo. I just hope they have good careers now.
I didnt expect Pioli winning the scudetto would be the start of his supervillain origin story.

Napoli and Juve play a system which doesn't exploit our weaknesses to the extent Inter's does. Their 2 strikers vs our 2 CBs meant our LCB can't cover for Theo. So he had to stay back. Our striker is slow which meant Acerbi could handle him alone - so Darmian and Bastoni was able to help out Dumfries and Dimarco. So they could attack from the flanks. Their 3 mids vs our pivot and an AM with no passing skills or physicality. Leao was half fit and our RW was useless.
Simply they are set up in a way that exploits every one of our weaknesses.
Unfortunately for them, City will dominate midfield and the flanks. Acerbi vs Haaland would be fun to watch. Only chance for Inter would be how City CBs handle the two striker format that is alien to EPL.
You know 3 5 2 has our weakness since 2012. Still we are attempting to fix our issues vs 3 5 2 and 4 5 1.

It's amazing how poor we are vs counter attacking teams because we decide not to counter attack ourselves vs such teams. Our best bet is to always counter attack given our lightweight midfield, yet we choose to abandon what works for us, thinking we are prime coming of sacchis milan or Madrid post 2014 -2019.

All Pioli had to do against Inter was play the 343 he used against Spurs.

With a fit Leao, sure, attack them. But he didn't have Leao. It was absurd what Pioli did.

He drops Leao and puts Messias as a RCM in a 352 he's never tried in Serie A, but when Leao is hurt, he goes 4231 and tries to go toe-to-toe with Inter in a semi final.
Yea fucking moron. Absolute clusterfuck. Missing our best player and yet we chose to attack like carlos milan of 2000.

We should have sat back deep and let them tire themselves before hitting Inter hard on the break.

Yeah that corner kick where Calabria was muscled out by Dzeko would have been prevented by Capello tactics. they whooped our ass it could have been so much worse.

How about him?

I thought we were talking about Leao.
We are, but all young players are inconsistent especially when the league decides you need to have two players on you at all times.

Olivier Giroud has scored a hatrick and 16 goals this session under Pioli’s terror ball. Amazing player. Imagine what he could do with proper service and system.

But okay now, leaving the agenda aside and being serious, this is exactly the kind of match you want Giroud to play. Give him this kind of service and he will deliver. He’s a poacher. That will be incredibly difficult vs the big teams because you won’t get such opportunities or service, hence you need a more complete striker with good holdup play, can dribble and create chances on his own to link better with Leao and the rest.

Hence thats why I want Giroud a super sub role this season and start in this kind of matches where he can deliver and perform. He can play this role very well, but playing him often and starting him in big matches, that’s not ideal. He’d be the ideal backup/super-sub that can give the main striker a rest vs relegation fodder teams. This is what @brk wanted all along but unfortunately Origi/Rebic did not live to that mark, and hence Pioli had to rely on Giroud more often that not.

So looks like Diaz came off injured. Time to see who padre hated more, CDK or Adli?

Tona over any over Diaz , Leao & OG :fp:

This forum is crazy.

This is the easiest top 3 ever this season but people still want to put Tonali or even Thiaw

Like both Tonali/Thiaw had a good game but Leao had 2 G/A and won the penalty. Diaz had 3 G/A and gave the pass that allowed Leao to win the penalty. Giroud scored a hatrick and was involved in a good play for Leao to win the penalty.

I love Tonali, I really do but his top 3 votes this season for him are so inaccurate

how this guy was ever thought of being good with youth is beyond me.. maldini's purchases were successful despite of him rather than because of
I wonder if it’s because he won the Scudetto with the youngest team in the 3 point era…?

Even if Pioli hates CDK, which I´m sure he does, he still likes him 10x more than he likes Adli

Not disagreeing they kicked our ass badly. But we could have atleast played more defensively instead of leaving gaps to exploit. Sit back and attack instead of rushing forward like headless chickens in the name of being attacking. We looked like we went on the offensive just for the sake of being aggressive. Got creamed in the process. At th3 end of the day, they are a better side than us especially without leao, so we should have atleast tried to make things difficult by defending as a group. Sit back and counter
Play a boring defensive game. It is what it is. I don't give a fuck about playing style. I care about results. We could have been more attacking once we have control of the game.

If he wasn´t an Italian kid who had been hyped since he was very young and a Milan fan on top of that, half the posters who put him in their top3´s every week would be arguing for his sale this summer.

I´m sure he could develop into a very good play under a different coach, in my eyes he´s nothing special under his current one.

I’m not talking about you.

You were joking. I’m aware and I even laughed at that post iirc

But I saw some seriously voting for Tonali and Thiaw lol.

I think he’s a very talented player and he has a high ceiling.

He also gives his all and is a passionate player. I will never advocate to selling him.

But yes he’s a bit overrated. But his best this season like Vs that 4-0 Vs Napoli was the best level any of our midfielders have shown.

He will never be a pirlo or seedorf level player. He is not of that ilk.
He can become a good box to box midfielder around a de Rossi esque level at Max. De Rossi was quite good in fact underrated.

He looked lazy in many games, agreed. But he was like that always.
In terms of G/A contributions, he had only 2 barren spells of atleast 3 games this season. First one was just before WC and our midfield play was horrible. Second was the January disaster. To Leao's defence he was played at SS most of those games.
He has already matched his G/A contributions from last year.
if he was always like that is not an excuse, he needs to work on that as he gets older. We all know that consistency is one of his weaknesses so...

I'm not out here trying to bash on Leao, all this started with me saying that no one can be content over this season. All involved could have done a better job.

In Leao's case, I can't say that I think he's a better player than last season. For someone with his talent and ceiling, he should always try to be better than last season until his age doesn't allow for it.

7 assists and 2 goals says otherwise. He is a very complete midfielder. Can do it all, just needs to refine certain areas, has every chance to become world class. He is like 22.

Edit: he is 23. My point still stands.

Our entire team disappeared in Jan, how is this even remotely a discussion about Leao? No one was doing well in January. There was clearly an issue at the core of the team and despite our team doing poorly, Leao still managed to get better numbers than last season with less games and will probably still get higher numbers. How is that not improvement?

After his goals against Lazio and Verona at the end of last season I had hopes that he would become a high scoring Lampardesque player for us. Unfortunately Piolismo seldom allows midfielders into the opponent´s box.
