It really sucks but looking back this has been a long time coming, we really should have seen it

Milan, until it is purchased by an oil country or gets its own stadium, has to be run a certain way. It's a hard pill to swallow but it's true. Maldini has been publically against this method and I don't blame him

He and Massarra have really strayed away from how the early Boban and Maldini days went in these last few mercatos...I wish this was done more amicably and it breaks my heart but it makes sense
Your probably right here, i guess im just emotionally overwhelmed by the shock of waking up to the news.

Goddammit why couldn't those oil habibi buy our club and give us fans what we really deserve :b:

I don’t buy it that Moncada is some magician who is always right. Pretty sure he would have has input on CDK, Vranckx, adli, FBT, Vasquez etc

Hard to tell what will happen. I agree that RedS**t has to win something to avoid frustrating fans even more (which would be bad for business). But ... will they? And, if so, what will they do? Most likely, they are not going to invest heavily, but they may be more open to selling players if that helps them raise funds (that includes player we would rather see at Milan). While it is not in RedS**t interest to run us like Udinese, I think we will see players getting sold. So, perhaps, the question is who can they sell that can generate cash without impacting the team too much. CDK? Adli? Kalulu? Or will it go deeper ... Maignan?
I think Redbird are unprepared for what they are doing. The idea that firing Maldini was rooted in some "performance-based" capitalist master plan is the fever dream of morons who think Succession is a documentary (a show I refuse to watch)--if they were as competent as I thought, Cardinale (who does have a strong reputation) wouldn't still be meeting with different politicians over sites for his stadium. Also, if it was actually about performance, the fact Pioli was never in question when the man has failed to understand his own tactics, makes them look even more unprepared than I thought.

He doesn't even know where he's going to build his stadium. He's not pinning districts against each other, like most corporations do when shopping for tax benefits. They have a site they were going to regardless, they just pretend to extract concessions. Redbird might have a great team for building a stadium in Germany or California, but they clearly have no idea what they are doing in Italy.

Todd Boehly was able to calm nerves at Chelsea with flashy transfers. Unless Redbird are going to start signing flashy players, then he's going to have a shitty summer. People are supposed to he happy with Thuram and Kamada over Maldini?

Only winning will calm nerves. Imagine if things start our badly for Milan next season? His (Redbird's) only play will be to fire Pioli. And unless he wins something after doing that, he will be in an even worse position, thus starting the "why did we fire Maldini" drumbeat, which will be defeaning from neutral observers. If he starts selling players? Lol. It'll be over for him.

I think these choices are genuinely foolish. If you got pissed at Maldini, who is actually quite diplomatic, and you fire him--then you have to win. That's the only way to trigger fan amnesia. Just like winning the CL made everyone forget Sheva's sale.

This isn't some VC he acquired which failed to meet its targets lol, it is an entertainment product, and Maldini is one of your stars. If the show gets worse, you're going to suffer. It's a big gamble.

I lived in Northern VA when I was going to college. I’m in Florida now. Just never bothered to update my location.

DMV is nice. I still go back at least twice a year. I have a lot of family and friends there. For tourism, I wouldn’t recommend it though. Only monuments and museums lol
You really liked dmv? Richmond here which is what it is…dmv too much traffic bro. I went to college one year around there and 10 minute drive to get food would become at least an hour if it was a certain time of day. Fuck that

Roger Federer is the GOAT
People will want to spin it and say it was all Gazidis ...... yet for the fact that Gazidis wanted Ragnick and to go full youth and Maldini said no and enter Ibra and Kjaer
Would Moncada have brought them in???

These are all the things people are missing when they rush to say Maldini moves were all poor so he had to go

Strong championship cycles are usually a combination of multiple persons - lets see who join and where we go.

My worry is that without Maldini we will go full youth when experience is also a very important factor in a team to do well.

Who will guide the young players? Kjaer and Ibra were immense for what they did and I’m pretty sure Maldini played a part.

With Moncada okay we’ll have the young gems, but what about experienced players ?

So who scouted CDK?? Did Moncada not provide the player's profile to Maldini?
Or did Maldini just buy the hype of some Belgian league player because he saw it in a dream.

Cmon bro he built a scudetto winning team and yes this season we had troubles, but troubles that were mainly due to the masterclass taction on fire and his idiotic choices.
I agree it wasn't the best mercato by MM but it was always going to be a hit or miss when we only had 35mil to spend in the last two windows. You cant always really on uncovering hidden gems as your strategy to win the season, we are not atalanta, our benchmark should not be aiming at winning the financial scudetto to maximise profit.

This is a prestige club not a fucking asset to be stripped bare minimum 😤
Charles was pretty out of character for Maldini I still don't fully understand it, I don't know the specifics of how he came to be but it wasn't the usual business. He has never fixated on one player like that and went above his means to acquire him, he certainly lost his way in the past few mercatos. MM spent +50m last summer and have nothing to show for it

I was talking to a friend of mine who follows Inter and the league religiously. From his perspective, the firing wasn't surprising because he thought Maldini failed. Kinda sobered me up a bit

iirc

When Elliot took over they installed their new management in Leonardo and Maldini and kept Gattuso on as the transitionary coach

I would imagine Redbird follows the same playbook

I agree with you (he deserved another chance), but that is not the "American way". His open disagreement was not tenable. I find this news devastating and I am utterly depressed, but I can see why it happened.

Why not Pioli? Probably because Jerrys**t sees him a "Yes man" (plus they had to keep one of the two to try to prevent a complete meltdown from the players).
The Warriors didn't fire their GM after losing the NBA finals in historic fashion, embarrassing fashion, because they aren't morons.

If you fire someone beloved, you will pay a price, unless you win.

This isn't some unique American quirk that is being displayed. This is the big bet of a guy who owns a sports team, but borrowed the money, so it's his ass if he fucks up. He doesn't have "fuck you" money.

He better win.

Revenues will plummet and they will be fucked trying to sell the club or generate a profit.

You can’t just sell your most valuable parts and expect someone to somehow pay more for your asset…
Indeed. But we have a lot business geniuses on this forum that think you can strip a club of good players without the club value tanking. So, great, gain 300m selling players, lose 600m in team value. I am sure that is Jerry's strategy. He is in business for ... losing money?

If he is, then great.

Seems to be this stupid notion on the forum that all bad picks were Maldini, who REFUSED to listen to Moncada.

While all rumors that did not come to fruition and turned out to be great players were all Moncada, but power hungry Maldini just wouldn’t listen

Patience is so important in sports. We were truly in the middle of a project that had been overwhelmingly successful, so making a change is just a huge fucking risk.

I think if Moncada becomes SD it’s more of a course correction back to the earlier Elliott days than it is a change of direction. Maldini didn’t want to continue buying under the radar players, he wanted to invest heavily. RedBird said no, Maldini insisted in the media and privately that we needed to invest… so, Cardinale removed him and installed someone that would stay the course.

I think my biggest concern is the club’s culture. The work Maldini did to reestablish the culture at Milan is invaluable. And he had an extremely close relationship with the squad, they are not going to warm up to Moncada IMO after he takes Maldini’s job, it’s something that needs to be addressed.

Pioli is the only guy left for the team to rally around. He’s the most important person at the club right now.

Win how?

With no money, no stadium and a plan that starts with firing a club legend that will consequently put more pressure on him and alienate part of the fans.

This is some primo Li shit right here.

It’s been a massive pain in the ass but Gerry needs to deliver on the stadium front. That’ll make or break his tenure here.

He’s certainly taken more steps than predecessors and seems keen, but man, Italian bureaucracy is quite something

Can’t believe Barbara almost fluked her way to a shoebox stadium all those years away

I don’t think that will happen. We can still build a very good team on a 50M annual net transfer budget, because of the great foundation built by MMM, Gazidis, and Pioli (Ibra too).

Pioli has to hold it all together, though. Squad has to rally around him.

Laughable attempt at trolling. Sadly, this is probably the best you can do.
What was laughable was how much you tried to spin straightforward statements at M and M being subpar.

That's okay. Reality has hit you hard.

There's a life lesson here. You are never too old to eat another slice of humble pie.
