I'm sorry, Forza, you know how highly I hold you and your opinions, but I cannot stomach dissecting Maldini's transfer decisions when I watched Pioli's management of this squad this year.

Putting faith in Pioli over Maldini, if we are doing a 12 month retrospective, makes no sense to me. Pioli has done such a poor job with everything provided for him.

Take CDK, who I have never been a huge fan of, but look at how he's been used by Belgium and Brugge, and then compare that to what Pioli has done. Pioli has made so many errors, from the most basic level at his fitness staff where he has (for his entire tenure here) had the most injuries of any other squad in Italy... and then you see him playing Messias as RCM in a 352 he's never used, while dropping Leao, against Inter.

To me, Pioli has made so many mistakes that justify firing him over Maldini, it genuinely boggles my mind.

I don´t think RedBird has put faith in Pioli over Maldini. I also don´t buy into this notion that RedBird were unconvinced by the season and heads had to roll.
I think Maldini was fired due to him having significantly different ideas from RedBird on how to approach the market.

Last year when RedBird bought the club some of us claimed that their ambition was to increase revenue and club value and make sure we finish top 4 every season. This was being portrayed as a negative take and certain posters claimed that through RedBird´s approach we would be challenging consistently for Europe´s finest trophy within 3 seasons. One of the key arguments for this take was that "Maldini never would´ve joined an unserious project".

Then we start the season rather well on paper while on the pitch things are obviously not right. And even though the team is in decline Pioli´s contract is renewed. I amongst others claimed that this was another clear indication that RedBird´s ambitions and the ambitions of the fans don´t align. Again we were hit with; Maldini = serious project, #DaPlan, Scudetto winners etc.

My point is that Maldini´s presence papered over so many cracks that were there from the very beginning. Him being fired is not a result of some sudden change of plan or approach, his sacking has just exposed this plan for everyone to see it. That´s why there is a difference between how people react to the news. For many it just now dawned on them what kind of owners RedBird are and many others have known it for almost a year.

I´m as sad to see Maldini getting axed as the next guy, but seriously, isn´t it better that he leaves the club now than him having to be the face of this lowballing, Red Bull-like unambitious adventure?

JC is not sacking a player, a legend but a TD with mixed successes, who doesn’t agree with his boss strategy.
If this happens, you have two options.
Maldini resigns or is sacked.
The only thing I hope now is that the true love and passion Maldini has for the club will not be broken by an owner who will sell his club the sooner or later.

I in no way trust Pioli to make any major transfer market decisions. The guy has been Misfiring all year and the only reason he is even still around is because he has been piggybacking Ibra’s and Paolo’s presences for the last 3 years.

I don’t know, he’s starting to feel like a real snake and any empathy I had for him to not be sacked is gone.
