Cardinale is not the guy who comes and fixes things like this. Cardinale is a team player and he kicked Maldini out because Maldini didn't want to be a team player.

It fits that Cardinale emphasises again and again how important that is to him. Maldini, on the other hand, was already known to be a difficult character when he was a player.
