I knew you'd come out of nowhere defending Argentina.

Bulgaria wasn't a force traditionally, never were, and still aren't. But that group of players and that team was class. Looking back on that squad and the names it contained and how those players' careers ended up, it's not surprising at all that team went to the semi. And the point I was making was that, although it was "just Bulgaria" in the semi and it didn't sound like Italy/Brazil faced tough sides....the reality at the time was much much different.

As for "Argentina being already qualified"....you have to be joking if you mean they had nothing to play for. Because they sure as shit wanted to top the group. Instead, the loss meant that they finished as one of the best 3rd placed teams.
Diego's suspension shell shocked Argentina? Is that an excuse we are going to go with? First, Diego in 94 wasn't the same Diego. He had already gone back to Argentina to finish his career. Nobody expected anything crazy from him in that tournament anyway. Put it this way....it's not like Messi now, who even at this age and playing his regular football in America, he still is top.
And lastly, don't downplay that win by the Bulgarians, Diego or not. That Argentina team on the field still included Batistuta, Balbo, Simeone, Caniggia, Ortega, Redondo, Sensini. My point isn't to shit on Argentina. Quite the opposite actually. And what i'm saying is, Bulgaria was a very good team in that tournament. Evidenced by the fact that they beat many great teams along the way to the semi...including a top Argentina side in the groups.

As for Bulgaira losing to Nigeria...what's your point? I already talked about the fact that the 94 Nigeria team was top. It's not surprising they beat Bulgaria at all. And it wouldn't have been surprising if hey beat anyone else either. Italy needed extra time to beat them in the knockouts.
