Who actually thought Leipzig were playing all his wages lol... Come on, hands up???!!!
There was a lot of talk about Newcastle, but I wouldn't be surprised if an offer never actually came. The "insiders" haven't been right about anything this summer, so not sure I'd trust the whole "Newcastle was willing to offer X but he only wanted Leipzig".

In any case, under the circumstances, the deal is not great, but it's better than having him rott on the bench here and lose value. He has a contract with us until 2030. So if he does well at Leipzig, either they buy him for the option they have or someone else will. If he sucks balls there, we are back at square 1 next summer. But, that's tomorrow's problem at that point.

The Fofana we bought, based in him prior to be at Milan, that Fofana could be an asset. But Max somehow thought he and RLC were some sort of creative advanced midfield weapon... Play Fofana further back, following simple instructions, and I'm willing to be chill in the absence of an offer for him.
My problem with him is that he also isn't really a defensive monster. That's imo why Allegri didn't trust him further back.
We weren't happy with him in a double pivot either.

I mean you are right that he is usable of course, I am more scared that he is one of these players who can give you a false sense of security

Maybe my biggest criticism of the management was that they buy whatever they want and then expect the coach to make a team out of it. Kinda absurd they had all those world class data tools before other teams but didn't know how the pieces they find with data actually fits into the system.

This time they actually - finally - listened to the coach in transfers. They even overpaid to get the exact kind of players Amorim wants. A bit sad they only did something so simple after so much trial and error.

So we can already see in the field the first steps of a system. It may go wrong or not but the team has direction and Amorim will have no excuses.

There's not a good track record in Serie A of foreign coaches with very particular tactical ideas working... It's even worse at the bigger clubs. But it's not like Italy is booming with great coaching at the moment.

You're right, moving Alexis stemmed the bleeding down our right, but we still looked far more exposed, and that worries me. Torino were making a late push down 2-0, maybe they wanted to take more risks, we wanted to see out the game, all those game-state explanations are perfectly valid and maybe they're right and I'm wrong--and they all go beyond Gila being subbed off.

But as you said: the team slowed down, Musah was slowing down, Jashari ran his ass off (he covered a lot) and even Ramos is tired--therein lies my concern. When the team is exhausted, the shape collapses and we limped through the final 15 minutes: that's my concern. Hopefully we will build our fitness up, rotations will be sufficient to ensure we can maintain this pace, and with Pulisic, Moreira, and others being part of the team, we will be better off.
I think your point is completely reasonable, and it is also completely reasonable to expect the team to negate the 75 minute effect as they continue to train and gain match form. It was the first game after all.

That being said, an approach this costly means we MUST have subs able to chip in when called upon. I worry about squad depth behind the starters, but it's still the right approach to sign quality over quantity.

About Robinho Cisse. He is nice, but I feel people are getting carried too far away.

I read Sam’s post in the match thread about getting senior attacking player to not expose him to too much pressure.
I disagree. I always thought that trusting youth is a decision. You either do or don’t (thankfully, I think Amorim loves Robinho).

Managing pressure, reassuring them when things are not going so well is the job of the coach/management/club…that’s why I have 0 faith in the way the club is structured right now. Just the coach, 1 fat dude, 1 crooked legs dude (I thought Dida was back 🤷‍♂️) and Gerry.

Other than that, I think the team lacks nastiness / assholeness.
Alpha???!
(Oh you updated)

Pulisic is the senior player there. People trying all sorts of mental gymnastics but I doubt any of that matters unless both players fail.

If Rafa doesn't agree an exit then we will see if any true adult is in place to handle that predicament.

We have Gila and Rabiot. And I liked when Ramos folded that Torino defender like a lawn chair into the goal while waiting for a free kick to be taken.

A bit thin behind that.

The elephant in the room is that Pulisic only scored a goal in a US friendly in 2026

Villa sounds promising as they will just pay the fee needed surely. Also they signed gotezka and are trying to be ambitious
They have to be, they just got dicked down 4-0 by Brighton and Hove Albion yesterday, and it's just the first match of the season.

"Willing to stay" makes it seem like someone is begging/making him. Lol
Journalists always have a way to twist the meaning to suit them. Look at all the glazing Max got last season, compared to when we had Fonseca/Conceicao.

Your news article is only as good as the biased journalist's description of you.

Admittedly, yesterday was my first time watching Gila. Saw him go but on the first goes celebration.
I don’t consider Rabiot nasty on the field. His real nastiness is towards his clubs during contract negotiations … and beat up a young teammate here and there.

Even if both were, still not enough to intimidate or bully teams….and that’s quite important.

We have a few of them unfortunately... At this stage it's a bit of damage control.

Fofana was a regular for France, has been a decent player... RLC played well against us and PSG those 2 times?

RLC is a bum!!! Always has been, and this talk of an extension... Fuck me!!!

My ex lasted 3 years lol... Then the mask slipped.

That kinda thing?
Pretty much

I don't know if you were here when Paloschi debuted.... Him and Pato were supposed to be the next Sheva and Inzaghi.... Let's just say that things didn't end up as hoped.

Ppl are penciling us to be great this year and honestly I truly hope it will happen.... But I 'm begging you all

Grazie Maldini for signing this guy and giving him the highest salary!
Oh, wait...
😂 Right!

Iirc, quite celebrated signing last season.

I read about Amorim clearing out the “dead weight” and @fodders”…I smirk.

The club leaks that there have been contacts with PL clubs for Fofana but he is not convinced, we made clear to him that he won't play a single minute if he stays

Two days have passed, and a lot of the question marks have disappeared:
1) Defense: we still need at least one player, ideally a CB, because that’s where De Winter seems the most erratic. He can provide cover for both Pavlović and Gila. It’s not perfect, but as a fifth defender he’ll do - there should be enough playing time to go around.
2) Wing-backs: now we know the idea: an attacking player on one side and a defensive one on the other. So Alexis or Estupiñán + Moreira or Chukwueze. Moreira can play on either side as the attacking option, Alexis on either side as the defensive one, Estupiñán only on the left, Chukwueze only on the right
3) Central midfield: it’s going to be a DM + regista. Jashari or Modrić + Musah or… my bet is Rabiot, although Fofana would fit this role like a glove, no matter how loudly the racists scream that he wouldn’t. It’s strange that we’re chasing some left-footed AM when we already have Rabiot, who can play there. Put him there, make Fofana the first-choice alternative to Musah, and suddenly we’re very well covered at a high level. We’re creating this problem ourselves by freezing Fofana out for reasons that (obviously) have absolutely nothing to do with football - either something strange happened in the dressing room, or this is worse than a crime: it’s a blunder.
4) The two attacking midfielders: one is an advanced playmaker on the right, the other a classic No. 10 on the left. Amorim apparently sees Cissé and Pulisic on the left, and either a new signing or, God forbid, Loftus on the right. Meanwhile, anyone with a functioning brain would’ve made Loftus the first man to be exiled, Origi-style - and I don’t mean today, I mean back in 2023. The right side is crying out for Rabiot (as above) + Pulisic, which would then beautifully open up the left side for two natural left-wingers, Leão and Cissé. But again, that would make far too much sense, and apparently we need to manufacture some kind of problem for ourselves. So we’ll freeze out Leão, keep Loftus, because the difficulty level simply cannot be allowed to get too low.
5) Up front: Ramos won’t be able to play 90 minutes at the required intensity. We don’t need someone who can occasionally give him a rest - we need someone capable of playing a third of every league match for him and two-thirds of the cup games. Camarda won’t be that guy, so a second striker becomes more than just necessary. And no, Leão is not an answer for that position. Keeping him won’t solve anything in this setup. He’ll either play as the LAM or he’ll be outside Milan.

The answer to our needs is not going to be some square-headed guy from United, nor yet another right wing-back - which is how I see that Moroccan. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that there are still three signings coming (I’ve accepted that Fofana is leaving, so it has to be three, not two): CB, RAM, CF. If we make only two signings, we’ll repeat the same mistake we made with Allegri - we’ll clip our own wings before we’ve even had the chance to fly.

Ceterum censeo RLC has to be sold immediately.

We seem to have this issue every year. While we've added starting quality players, we face an issue with quality backups.

Given the important of this season, I'm not sure excluding players like Tomori and Nkunku is the best idea.

Surely given the opportunity of a deep European run, maybe even trying to win it, and challenging for #20, we might see a squad lacking the pieces to really fulfil it's potential?

There's still time, but I dread the words "fine as we are".
