There are players who upper management decide on, regardless of what the manager (and it seems SD, as well) think.
Monica Colombo of CDS said that Allegri wanted to rehabilitate Theo, "but when he arrived at Milan, certain decisions had already been made." She added that the sale of Reijnders was done before Allegri was consulted, as was the decision to sell Theo.
Bianchin of GDS seems to have the inside scoop on the situation with Adli, noting that he "has never made controversy and it is difficult to think that it will begin this time" despite this extreme choice to deal with Adli this way.
What is infuriating about talking about Adli, though, is this notion that he was rejected by several coaches. Pioli was the one who rejected him, to his own detriment, before conceding that he was wrong, publicly, when he relied on Adli.
It seems that Adli, like Saelemaekers, were players' whose fates were decided regardless of what the coach wanted--Fonseca notably underlined that he wanted to rely on Alexis before he was loaned out. It was reported in multiple places that Adli was on the way out before Fonseca's appointment, if I remember correctly. However, it's not like I'm going to hold Fonseca's opinion in high regard--the issue is that our management make choices regardless. It's why we pushed out CDK after his nightmare first season, but continue to rely on Chuk, despite being a horrific signing, himself.
Bianchin notes that Fiorentina did not reject him, writing: "he [Adli] let Fiorentina know that he did not want to continue in purple – he aimed to play a place for Milan." Again, Adli's problems in the second half of the season were due to injury, he did not lose his place. Palladino did so poorly that he got fired, mind you. Adli returned to Milan because, as Bianchin writes that Adli "would like to try to convince Allegri to give him a place in squad," but notes that at the moment, it isn't possible because the club (i.e. management) want to sell him.
If the report that Spartak offered 18m is true--interest Bianchin confirms in his report [though not the figure]--it shows that Adli does have a significant market value, making the choice to relegate him to Futuro an odd choice, as again, Adli has not made any trouble, there are no reports of him doing that. Early reports pointed to Napoli interest, while he has also been linked to many clubs in the past, Sevilla, Lille, Eintract Frankfurt, and it seems the most concrete
link was Ajax. He rejected them to play for Milan, so it's not like he doesn't have a market.
Bianchin writes: "it is likely that he [Adli] will end up making a decision only in August, when market opportunities multiply." Adli isn't rejecting moves out-of-spite, but because he doesn't want to go to Moscow or the Gulf. Not exactly a crime, especially for someone who has been a consumate professional.
It seems like they are determined to push Adli out, with Adli's preference to go to a European team, rather than Saudi, Qatari, or Russian offers that have come, so far--which I don't think is a partiuclarly good reason to send him to Serie D.
My read on this is confusion, why not give him the chance to prove himself to Allegri? It's clear that Allegri is not the one pushing him out, based on the available reporting, rather, it is a choice made by management. Are they upset that he rejected Fiorentina and want to punish him? Are they upset he won't take the Spartak deal, which would benefit them greatly?
The major concern for me, is not Adli, honestly, it isn't. It is the fact that we
still have a disconnect between management, our sporting director, and even our manager. It is not Tare or Allegri who are making this decision, but Furlani and Moncada, who have shown that they are genuinely incompetent. The reports of their decision making, independent of other executives, still is rearing its head, confirmed by multiple outlets, over several different players
plus illustrated in several incidents, many public.
Allegri and Tare don't see Adli worth a fight, hell, Allegri wanted to keep Theo it seems he didn't put
that much of a fight for him, it seems Mike is the one that Allegri gets to keep. I think it becomes clear why Berta (and other potential SDs) didn't want this job--they wouldn't be given the necessary control to fix things. It also makes sense why they would go for Allegri over Conte, Allegri doesn't have the same combative history that Conte or Sarri do.
For those who dismiss my concerns saying that I am biased over Adli, the question then must be asked: why is Devis Vasquez getting the same treatment after finally having a good season and being at his most marketable? What is the logic there?
