It's a combination of different factors. Pioli has a younger team that he can raise the quality of through hard work and has leaders like Ibra, Kjaer, even Donna, Kessie and Hakan to lead on the pitch. The change in formation to bring about the most in our players tactically was a big thing, as well as Maldini/Massara etc bringing in mostly quality players that work within their means.

None of Pioli, Maldini/Massara, or Ibra alone brought this about. All together clicked, as evident by the mentality and spirit of always fighting, never wanting to lose for a second. Ibra certainly helped here, and can a lot of credit, but players have said the same about Pioli as a figure being open and honest which gives a lot back to the players on a personal level.

Calabrias 2 goals are top for a Serie A RB, the only RB in the league with stats that are a notch better is Letizia. Considering Calabria actually doesn‘t play very attacking any complaints are just pure badmouthing.

Ah yes, Ibra saved Pioli while we're top of the table and Ibra has missed well over half the games played so far. Makes sense.

Even last year without him we were learning to play with a different approach upfront to suit whoever we had as a CF. Tactical balance for who is on the pitch at any given time. As the season wares on, it changes due to fatigue playing so many games a season and can't keep up the intense pressing so much.

But to say that is stupid. Lille game was an outlier really, outplayed for sure. Juventus? We missed 5 starters in that game, and then other factors (Bentancur no second yellow, questionable no-review penalty) also impacted the game. If we'd had Rebic and Krunic even - who missed out on the day due to covid - I'm sure the result would be different. We played well, and with spirit. Individual mistakes cost the game. Can't fault the team for their approach though, didn't just fall over.

And yesterday? Unfortunate to not score on four chances off the post and Calabria's great shot. Sad it went to ET + pens, but a win does wonders for morale.

Maybe stop complaining about Pioli when we're having success not seen since we had an actual quality squad and top coach.

Of YoungSacchi, lets talk Pirlo. Did you see Jube-Sassuolo game? Masterstroke by Pirlo ha? Outplayed by 10 men. Saved by the refs who didnt award 2 red cards in the 1st half and veeeery strange reaction of Sassuolo defender on the 2nd goal. Vs Milan B outplayed after 1-0 untill milan lost the strenght and had no subs. Spent 100mln € on 2 best young wingers in serie a but doesnt know where exactly to play them... Pirlo masterclass

Romagnoli definitely didn't have to train after playing the full 120 minutes + taking a PK. Respect.

Love this squad. Players who aren't fully fit, or those having played 120 mins still come to training. Daniel only went because papa Maldini would've slapped him when he got home.
