The way in which we play has not worked for months now, and has changed from last season due to several factors. Over-relying on OG while still trying to adopt a press, for one. Losing all semblance of balance with Tonali + Bennacer, even if overall they have been two of our best performers. A complete defensive collapse which happened earlier this season - although not as bad as now - when people were already complaining about Tomori, Kalulu and our fullbacks. Our attack having no reference and using the same repeated tactic. Look at the games where we've had so many shots, but how many were meaningful?

Things go wrong, that is okay. What isn't okay is that nothing is being done to resolve those issues. There are players on the bench who are just ignored and not given a chance even when those starting simply aren't performing. There is no thought to changing it up like we did against Juventus earlier this season, even though it worked. Why not do that again?

The point behind sacking him is despite this downward trend in form and gameplan, when we hit this low, it has taken weeks to admit anything was even wrong. And by now, we're up to the derby when Pioli says "Oh, maybe time to change the system". What I loved about Pioli before this was he came up with solutions, even if they didn't work, he at least adapted. Between having Kessie/Krunic AM at crunch time, to crisis mode unlocking Kalulu, to solidifying our defence for half of last season... the ideas were there. Now we are devoid of any for a while. So either Pioli adapts and we have some meaningful results for the coming weeks or bring in someone who will at least try to correct the ship and not steer into an iceberg.

Theo rumored confrontation and then nonchalant walking on the first goal, and then just not caring on another goal says a lot. That isn't the type of play we usually see from players.

In hindsight it’s pretty clear why Gerry hasn’t loosened the purse strings, we have an astonishing amount of dead weight in the squad already

A lot of the good work in getting rid of Mirabellli’s guys is getting undone.

Yes some of these guys aren’t super expensive but it all adds up. You really can’t have more than 3-4 players at this level if we want to be a serious club

I don't disagree that more time is needed, but if Pioli can't show change given he's had 2-3 weeks time to turn things around, there is only so much leeway that can be afforded. It's not to say a new coach will perform miracles, it may be a rough season with or without Pioli - make no mistake. But the club is more important than the coach, and if the coach cannot correct the situation then he must go. The players as a sum are more than quality for top 4 in the league, and can push for Scudetto even as-is if we had the fitness/medical staff of a normal club.

We just cannot allow more valuable time to be wasted. Top 4 can be make or break on the immediate direction this club goes in.
