Not sure when the last appeal is set but once that’s done the rate at which he’s supposed to pay back Sporting will be set, based on his current earnings. Sure it doesn’t make sense to delay his renewal and big sponsorship contracts if that’s a long way a way or if it’s not clear, but who knows maybe they’re expecting a resolution soon. But it is unusual for a star like him to not have a sponsorship deal at this moment. Or for him to renew his contract with us if everything else is agreed.

The optimistic take is that once the sporting issue is resolved he can suddenly sign his deals and increase his earnings and not worry that sporting is eating away at it. He will end up paying the same in the end, but how much up front and for how long makes a big difference overall.
