I think an Arsenal or some top of the table team would have bought bennacer for 30 35 million maybe 40, remember that he wasn't a starter during the magic run of the last 5 games last season, he never started in those 5 games, then you take those 30 million + 15-20 million and you go to Lotito for Sergej, his contract ends in 2024 that is a reasonable price

Arsenal let him go and I doubt they wanted him back. I don't think anyone was coming close to triggering his clause and we know if they did then Lazio would be right back to their 80m valuation looking to fleece us for over 50.

We looked at mids and anything close to 20 or above was too much for us. Even if we managed to make that move we would still be short on enough quality mids.

I don't really like Bennacer but Milan needs to be adding quality players so players like him raise their game further or are dependable quality subs that keep us dangerous throughout an entire season.

When the owner actually unlocks funds and Paolo can stop glumly pleading for investment then we can talk about ambitious moves. We have at least kept our most important players but we need to build on that with quality additions.

He's a very good keeper, and he makes some great saves, and he's only 24. He's improved his feet, but he's never going to be a... damn, I'm trying to think of like... y'know, an elite keeper, y'know the type that is like... top three in the world?

Oh, got it! He's no... Tatarusanu, but I think Donna's shot-stopping abilities are exceptional, he's a top 10 keeper.

Hauge is a fair point, I forgot about him. But if we were going upward trajectory imo guys like Salad, Krunic, Bennacer ( ), Giroud would all be upgraded. We were loaded with options at LW bc of Rebic so Hauge was easily expendable, but even Krunic is an inexpendable player now.

Krunic is a guy you keep around, he's a good player to have. Milan used to randomly rely on players like Vogel or Dhorasoo. Krunic is like our modern day Pancaro or Favalli--unsung heroes who helped us.

I think without R9, we don't win 2007 CL. R9 helped us keep Pippo fresh, and his scoring in the league helped us cruise through games that should have been tougher.

Salad is a player we could sell if we wanted to. Pobega is another, Gabbia, Calabria, I think Origi has a market, as does Rebic... but I think we're still building up our team first, but I also think that it makes more sense, cost-wise, to loan+option players like Florenzi or Dalot, especially in this phase of building.

I think this is a bit revisionist. If the management brought in CdK to play CAM but Pioli insist on playing him at CF and RW and he still doesn’t work out then he’s risking to be fired.

It's only revisionist because you say that management brought him in to play CAM. So why did they buy Adli early? Why would the management buy a kid a year early, at 8m, if we're so cheap and risk-averse? For him to play 140 minutes?

Even if that was the case, he has looked better as a CF (not great) than at CAM, so why force him there? If Kalulu can be jostled around to find the best fit, why not CDK?

I am actually advocating Kjær to be upgraded most immediately, so I agree on being patient with Kalulu and Tomori.

Lol, Kjaer really pissed you off with those antics. I have a lot of faith in Tomori, Kalulu, and Thiaw. I would rather keep Kjaer, but if he goes, I think that young CB unit needs experience to help them out, they're so young to be starting CBs.

So where did we bring him in to play then? CF over Giroud/Ibra and newly signed Origi? RW over established players like Messias/Salad?

Only CAM position seemed up for grabs. Not sure what Pioli's problems are with Adli and I was behind you when you had the pitchforks for Adli, but I don't think that somehow proves management didn't see CdK predominantly at AM position.
