Zaha is going as well - not to mention the potential Messi announcement too

Rumour has it that they are making a play for Gundogan just to add to the misery

I’m low key worried about how football will look like (especially the Serie A) in 5 years time.

Furlani made a statement to Gazetta

[...] Furlani: "In our club we constantly analyze the most suitable strategies and models to ensure that Milan can continue to progress on and off the pitch, to compete with the leading teams in Europe. The first fundamental element, I always repeat, is, and will remain, football. Precisely with this objective we have decided on an organizational reorganization that leads to the creation of a working group for the technical / sports part". In short, Milan relaunches, promises a future up to par: "Our priority now is to consolidate and strengthen the progress made in recent years, in all the members of the club. Our ambition has not changed, indeed it has strengthened: to be competitive at the top of European football. We are on track, but there is still a lot of work to be done.I hope that our wonderful fans can keep club support intact and constant, and personally I hope to be able to interact with our fans soon, so that they can understand our strategy, to continue together to see Milan grow".

These are the keywords I wanted to hear. Whether or not they're doing it right or wrong is a narrative we'll be able to judge in 1-3 years. But the goal must remain the same. It calms me a bit down in terms of are we going to sell players like Maignan, Theo or Leao or not. Never say never, you know, but from these words, I don't think that's the plan. The plan is to still be competitive not only for Top 4, but at the Elite level of Europe.

Now I want to see actions who sustain those words.

Not sabotage him. They're working in the way they want to work and feel is the best. That's clear. But the messaging seems weird to me, why promote Pioli like this so publicly when they know a vast majority of the fanbase is angry at him also. Seems to me they're doing that (the messaging) on purpose to give themselves an excuse if they stumble, "hey Pioli picked the wrong players not us!".

I'm still mad and i'm still angry at Pioli so I guess i'm just lashing out.

I think what Furlani is low-key trying to sell us by reading between the lines is exactly what you wrote in your next post:

Yeah I don't think this is about Pioli, or results, or transfers in the past at all. It's about Maldini wanting to have the final say on everything and Gerry won't allow that.

I guess Redbird wasn't happy with the power structures and decision hierarchy in the technical area in its current state. Apparently, Maldini secured more decision-making power last summer than he ever had before - otherwise he wouldn't have signed on at the last second. And promptly we get players that Pioli almost notoriously refused to use. The only rational explanation I have for that is in fact that he wasn't consulted anymore the way he used to. Otherwise I don't know how to explain Pioli not using the players and Maldini constantly shaking his head when being framed during a Milan game. And the rumors about frictions in the last couple of months? They'd fit too.

I was very unhappy with that tho, I still am. I think our season would have been much better if Pioli had integrated and used Maldini's players better. That's what I've always said, and that opinion doesn't change now just like that.

But what's also clear is that the status quo couldn't continue to exist like this. We were stalling. Someone had to go. If I had been asked, I would have sent Pioli into the desert. Without hesitation. That's no secret. But it seems that Furlani has in mind a much larger reorganization of the technical area, which would include a decentralization of decision-making powers. No more two, three strong figures as in the past, mostly represented by a SD, TD and a liaison figure between club and owner. At least that's how I interpret "the working group". Moncada will play a much more important role in it. Likewise Pioli. Not to put them above others. More likely to elevate them to the same level that Maldini previously held. And in just such a structure, Maldini no longer had a place.

I think Pioli refused to use the players he got in the proper manner, constantly.

I am looking forward to Pioli's solutions now that he's part of our transfer choices.

Agreed. He indirectly was sending messages that he did not like the new players he got. But of course he didn’t directly say or implied, I want Maldini gone etc. he just wants better players next summer and he probably wants more involvement. That was his message.

Unfortunately, the owners probably took his message as ‘let’s fire Maldini’

But I still think the main reason Maldini got fired was because of his complaints in public, disagreements in how to run things with them. Pioli was just another factor but not the main one

Need to sack Pioli ASAP. I don’t give a shit about his diplomacy tbh. I want a coach who can instill the basics in his players. Most of our players lack fundamentals in one touch passing and chance creation. We pass the ball too slow.

Magnan will be sold soon. Then Theo and Rafa. Moncada will scout and find new young talents with money from sales. Earned money will go to re-paying the debt to real owners Elliot. And to build the stadium. When the stadium is built AC Milan will be sold to the highest bidder making significant profit for Elliot and Red Bird.

In the meantime we will be a good team that will most likely play CL coz that's important for revenue (=paying back the loan). But will never be the MILAN WE KNOW. Untill were sold to a normal owner.

Maldini made some mistakes. Some of them huge. Yes. But also did some things at extremely good level. He led Milanello in an impeccable way. Prolonged ALL THE ONES HE SIGNED. Created a team that has world class core of 7/8 top players! And only needs 3/4 more to be at THE LEVEL. Last mercato was a failure yes. It fucking happens. He was fired not because of that (that's just a story for kids come on!) but because Maldinis not a yes man! And didn't want to work with pennies and bullshit the fans, thus expressed himself publicly on many occasions on the way the club needs to go. That's a direct message AGAINST your boss (=Cardinale dilettante) and at high business levels power and ego are above understanding each other. Also, Cardinale does not have 100mln to give to Paolo. Paolo put the pressure, he wanted real Milan and to But 4/5 players and spend 100 mln and win the scudetto. Gerrymandering dilettante doesn't care sbout trophy cabinet, trust me. He has an excel table with numbers. And they need to be ok.

Moncada is a better scout then MM but he will be able to control Milanello. There's no one in there now who is up to it. Next year could be a big problem. Pioli will last 3 months managing it all by himself. Dilletants fired the best technical director this club can IMAGINE. Idiots.

This team Maldini.built is unfinished and was badly coached. Really badly!! But it's a great base and the emotional chemistry is phenomenal. Which is incredibly important. The team has that grinta and soul! And now, dear Milanisti... it will be dismantled. Sooner or later.

Red bird out. Dilletants!! Go buy a baseball club and count hot dogs being sold! Milan will stay after these idiots and Capitano can come back! Forza Milan!

Are Redshit going English style? Making Padre like Ferguson and Wenger?

Damn, Padre IS the master stabber!!!

This is what the recent top clubs do.

They have their coach basically play the manager role where they play a key part in transfers. Klopp, Guardiola, Arteta, Xavi and even Ancelotti with Madrid, all have a key say in transfers.

I’m fine with this approach, in fact I agree with it. I prefer this over the Italian model where the director/owners chooses the players and the coach is like ‘hey make these players work’

A coach should have a say because he’s the one who will pick the lineup, he has his own set of system. If you want the team to succeeded and you test the coach, you ought to give him the best of your capabilities. Even if the budget isn’t sufficient, at least if you make signings, he has to be on board with it.

But I also would respect a coach more if he can work better with what he’s given. You can’t always expect to get every target you want, so an elite coach should be able to work and adapt to the situation. Pioli showed he’s limited in that regards and that’s not a good thing. What if we get many injuries? Pioli will be like eh my key players got injured, I can’t do anything.

That’s also wrong.

The fact that some of the players have already started revolting and posting questionable messages i.e. Adli, Maignan + Leao just solidifies what I said before Paolo got fired. Maldini was the GLUE that held everything together at Milan and deep down the players looked up to and followed him NOT Pioli (ditto for Ibra).

Now that these 2 key figures have departed, watch the fire sale begin and results start to crumble as the self-belief and good fortune this team displayed over the past few seasons simply didn’t EXIST pre-Maldini + Ibra hence the slew of midtable finishes.

However, the good news is that Pioli will be out of a job this time next year and we’ll finally get a decent manager.

this would make sense if Maldini wanted to quit
In reality, he expected to continue even the day before being fired
The reasons he got fired:
a) poor results
b) disastrous transfers last summer
c) just rumor, but looks like he didn't listen much to Moncada and Pioli regarding transfers (if true, this is completely incompatible with what red bird want)
d) starting drama to get full control over transfers last summer. And since he stayed, I assume he got it, but wasn't able to deliver results

cmon we don't know the inner workings

but the late signings have been a far cry from the likes of Theo and Leao

even in terms of profile and characteristics, this club has taken a drastic step back

Yeah…. Hate to admit it but yeah….

The club didn’t click when Gazidis lost power/left

You know man people have been saying this since Elliot took over

Elliot was supposed to strip the team for parts. Selling players and facilities to pay off their debt. That didn't happen. In fact, they invested more money into the club, covering losses and transfers, than anyone could have expected. As you said, Gerry wants to build the stadium and flip the club. He bought the club for 1.2 billion, he won't reach that figure let alone a profit if he decides to gut the club to pay off his loan

So I don't buy this notion the players will be sold and the sky is falling. If I had to guess things will operate more how they have with 50m mercatos and aiming for top 4 finishes until the stadium is built. I guess we'll see some players from the foundation leave but that was always going to happen, the club has good scouts they will be adequately replaced

I love Maldini and I wish this club had infinite money to fulfill his vision, but that's not reality. The club will need to continue down this path and by the looks of it Maldini was fed up, it is what it is

Let's see what he does with more authority. Let's give him a chance guys.
Transfers were bad for his system last season.

When we did this with Montella, he gave us a hidden gem in Matias Fernandez, and an absolute flop in Nikola Kalinic

I’m all for it though

And then we had to replace every single player.

So should we do that every couple of years if a manager fails, or when he eventually stagnates? Or does a director focus on the growth and sustainable idea that we will sign good players that can eventually fit with any manager

Of course Pioli didn’t directly get involved in the sacking of Maldini. He wasn’t even part of that meeting where it happened.

However, it’s very possible that Maldini politely confronted Pioli on his tactics after the derbies defeats. In fact Maldini publicly questioned his use of 3ATB during our slump.

Pioli stood his ground and probably told him that he wasn’t backed adequately in the summer and had no autonomy in it so it wasn’t entirely his fault. It would explain his comments in the PC where he wanted more ‘smart’ players and I wouldn’t be surprised if he wants more involvement in it.

So there was a disagreement here, the owners also knew about it and Maldini wanted Pioli reevaluated due to his failures this season. Owners disagreed and felt that Pioli should be more involved in the market which could explains why he’s getting more power to pick his players right now based on reports. Maldini maybe didn’t entirely agree with this.

Owners also felt that Pioli is easier to deal with than Maldini so they preferred him to stay, as Maldini is more difficult to deal with since he’s more demanding. Then there is also other disagreements with how the club is run and Maldini got the sack. Pioli was just one of those disagreements as per se.

Of course Pioli didn’t snake him or said, I don’t want to work with Maldini or Massara and stuff, he was questioned, stood his ground but I’m sure he was still willing to work with M&M for a better season.

The owners just had other ideas.

There probably wasn’t any bad blood at all and it’s likely Pioli was open to working with M&M still despite their disagreements with the makers which was definitely there given that Pioli didn’t play Maldini’s signings much. In the CL matches of Napoli and Inter, he gave CDK a grand total of 0 minutes.

So I do think Pioli indirectly played a part in their sacking even if it was unintentional. Such things happen.
Good take.

One of the first things Berlusconi did as Milan owner was firing Liedholm who was a Milan legend as a player and as a coach and replaced him with an unknown Parma coach and i think it turned out pretty well
That's it. What I wanted to hear. We are winning next year.

I never understood why a lot of people here were enthusiastic about him. Seems like a mediocre player that Chelsea fans are happy to see the back of. Too old to improve. No rest value.

But but but Moncada picked him....
