Well, I'm somewhat of an history buff and respect your knowledge on the subject. One of the historical figures that I admire the most is Julius Caesar both as a soldier and statesman. Unfortunately his popularity with the masses did him in because they feared that he had ambitions of becoming an emperor which would spell the end of the republic and for that was stabbed to death. It turned out to be in vain because his adopted, (after death) son Octavius became emperor Caesar Augustus and so the republic ceased to exist anyway. Augustus, for whom the month of August was named, turned out to a great emperor but his successors like Tiberius, Caligula, Nero and others were terrible.
One of my favorite series of all time is "Roma" on HBO that unfortunately lasted only two seasons. I thought it was awesome: the nudity, the gore, the plots, the history, everything you'd want in a show.
