I know a lot of top minds in basketball analytics are fleeing to football because of how open it is in comparison, it'll be interesting how they do
It's interesting from a tactical viewpoint, because as you said it's nothing like American sports where there are several pauses and there's enough control to maximize analytics. The only real comparison is set pieces where the coaching staff has control over all variables. There is a lot of work left to do in this area
But what I meant was the market aspect. In American sports you use analytics, get a nice draft pick/player acquisition, and maybe win a few more games or trophies. Boohoo good for you
In football, a smart transfer can financially change the outlook of your club and stature
And there are no barriers
I didn't know that was happening, that's very interesting.
Market-wise, yes, there's no doubt that the potential of being able to grab players for nominal fees makes the incentive for scouting even greater.
I wonder what draft picks would be valued at if a team could just
buy a number one pick or whatever?
I assume this is why they are making massive changes at the youth level as reported
hopefully they trickle into the first team
The thing is, it seems like all our youth categories
below the primavera are doing
very well, so I wonder what sort of changes they saw that needed that sort of revolution?
Even if it does work, of course, there's still an immediate need for
this season. We need Italians or at least, Italian-trained players.
