Looks to me like this was all planned. It would have been impossible to fire him had we made the final of the CL, but losing to Inter and scraping into the CL through a backdoor was enough of an excuse to justify making such a monumental decision. But this was clearly the plan all along and they were waiting a whole year to pull the trigger. Monaco got denied Moncada months ago, and he could have gone to PSG with Campos. He stayed quiet and didn't renew. Why wouldn't he renew if he was rejecting these offers? He most likely had assurances that he will take over this summer, which means he already had a plan in place for targets to go after when that happens in order to hit the ground running.
We have the core group signed on to 2026 at least. Extending Maignan now is a lot harder and we'll need to show major assurances with a huge market and improved performances to convince him to extend, but we're lucky Maldini got Leao and the rest over the line and locked in for at least another 3 or 4 years.
There's already a clear-out planned for this summer. Most of the squad players are heading out. It's a mini-squad revolution that needs 6 or 7 new players in just to round out the numbers. Besides Kamada and Sportiello I don't think we know any of the names that we're actually targeting. Most likely they will all be huge surprises and players hardly any of us have heard of, which is sort of the point of what we will now be doing. It's a massive risk where we are betting everything on believing that we are smarter than everyone else. No more gut feeling, or looking for experience or whatever. They'll slice up our game into metrics and targets and spit out a list of names that the algorithm thinks will improve our expected points next season. The scouting team under Moncada will have a list, and the analytics team under Zelus will have a list, and whichever players are on both lists are the ones we send the faxes to. It's the same process we've been successfully using but probably without gut moves like Origi and Florenzi.
The x factor for me now is Pioli. If he wasn't using CDK, Adli or Vranckx (who were clearly greenlit by the data and scouting team) then what makes us assured that he'll use the next batch of youngsters? I really think Pioli is on borrowed time right now. They'll replace him (with RDZ hopefully) at the first wobble. That is unless he completely changes his process into one that is aimed at developing talent as opposed to winning at all costs. Moncada has said this in the past, how it's ok in France for teams to play youngsters because they expect them to make mistakes. If Pioli was asked to do the same, to be more forgiving of youthful mistakes, then i'm sure he can adapt. He's the ultimate yes man he won't argue against it. We might even see him integrate Adli and Vranckx next season if that's the case.
That's my hope, at least. It's a lot riskier (in a sporting sense) than the plan I was hoping we'd follow, which is what Maldini wanted to do. Upgrade the squad with more guaranteed champions with the money we made so far. It's cheaper, though, and a lot less risky financially. I know that's always going to be the side RB fall on, and Maldini wanted there to be more risk financially and less sporting risk. That's the fault line that couldn't be bridged.

I'm sure his deal with the MLS is worth a lot too, but over the long term they'll give him his own franchise same as Beckham. That's probably going to end up being worth close to what he turned down with Saudi and he doesn't ruin his reputation by selling out.

It's becoming more and more clear with each interview and rumour (I'm sure some are credible mixed in there) that literally the whole management was conspiring against Paolo. Even if they wanted to change directions, this whole thing stinks and is in terrible taste. These guys are so far away mentally from what makes this club special. Hopefully they fuck off before irreparable damage is done to the soul of this club. Somehow this feels worse than fasobelli even though I know the club will be just fine on the pitch compared to them.

But that’s not how business works. Milan would be a financial wreck if you done that. Revenue is not profit and Milan still has operational costs etc.
Let’s say Milan made 200 million in revenue, doesn’t mean that 200 million can go the mercato. What if they spent 200 million on wages, infrastructure etc. That means there’s no money at all. The revenue is gone. Football clubs were run like that but it isn’t sustainable. Whatever Redbird gives Milan, I am certain even if Redbird give Milan 20 million, Milan will run at a loss.
The future is sustainability. Whether I agree with how Redbird is doing it. I’m not sure. But for Berlusconi way of running a club is only successful as long as the owner remains, which isn’t good business.

So what did we learn from the Scaroni interview:
- Maldini was fired because he wanted independence and didn't want to work as part of a larger team. He wasn't fired because of performance.
- We will have sales. Whether major sales or not isn't clear. Everyone is for sale at the right price so we'll just have to wait and see.
- Stadium issue is more deadlocked than I expected. They're still waiting on a decision on San Siro and maybe the rule change for the parks to use La Maura. Doesn't seem like San Donato is as certain as it was hinted at this week.
- They really hate Maldini. The subtle digs throughout the interview, the cold press release for him and Massara, it's really bitchy and not something I was expecting from AC Milan, especially towards one of its greatest legends. What the fuck happened in that meeting?
- The Ibra as team manager might have some truth to it.
- They say they want improvement in sporting performance but it doesn't really seem like a priority. I think maintaining a guaranteed 4th place is the target. If the ambition (at this time) is higher than that then Scaroni would have said so clearly that 'we're building a team that wants to win the title every year!'.
- This is Gerry's club now. There's no more power struggle. It's his show and he will run it the way he wants to run it, which is like an American sports franchise.

I will say a few things for the last time and let you have your meltdowns in peace.
1. We run the club at profit. Something which is absolutely insane for Italian football. And we are doing it without major sales. Our rival clubs like merda, ladri and Roma bleed 100-150 m a year despite often selling players for big bucks or book cooking. Napoli are probably healthy financially, but I doubt they are run at profit. Actually I am not sure if there are any big clubs running at profit. Maybe only Dortmund but it is due to them constantly selling important players. There is no need to sell starters.
2. Sacking Maldini, as unpleasant as it was, is very well planned. We're talking about people from the top of the corporate world. They don't make split-second emotional decisions. Numerous reports emerged (if we believe them) that Maldini was requesting impossible things. Apparently it wasn't a money thing, but about power. He couldn't accept that he won't be the only person in charge, which is kind of absurd. He is just an employee after all.

Scudetto + CL semi final is better than what many other big clubs achieved these past 2 years - Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona, Ladri, Atletico. You can even throw in PSG as well as they have no competition in France and winning the league is no news at all.
4. Players will not request transfers because Maldini left. They signed for Milan. They are all proud to play for Milan. Maldini being sacked is not good news for them, as apparently they love him being around, but they all have long contracts (at least till 2026 - Theo and Maignan) and even if some of them hand transfer requests, they will be honored only if we receive adequate offers. We are not forced to sell anyone.
5. We have a lot of deadwood to move which will free up a lot of money.
A - Wage releases - Dest 6 m wages, Baka 4.6 m wages, Ibrahimovic - 2 m wages, Vranckx - 2 m wages, Brahim - 2 m wages, Vasquez - 0.3 m wage. 17 m freed up which is more than enough for 4 players with 3 m wages which is usually what we pay for most of our starters
B - Sales - Rebic 5 m + 4.5 m wages, Origi - 5 m + 5 m wages + many others like Salad, CDK, FBT, Florenzi, Pobega, Gabbia, Kjaer, etc. that may leave due to various reasons.
6. Cardinale has zero interest in stripping down the club. His only interest is the club doing fine, having a strong squad and having the stadium issue finally settled. Only then he can sell for big bucks.
In short, there's no reason to have meltdowns now. Let's give them at least 1 month and see how they decide to proceed. Believe me, if they sell Maignan or Theo and replace them with a kid that nobody has ever heard of, I will be the first one to shit on Furlani and Cardinale's heads.

Our rival clubs like merda, ladri and Roma bleed 100-150 m a year despite often selling players for big bucks or book cooking. Napoli are probably healthy financially, but I doubt they are run at profit. Actually I am not sure if there are any big clubs running at profit. Maybe only Dortmund but it is due to them constantly selling important players. There is no need to sell starters.
2. Sacking Maldini, as unpleasant as it was, is very well planned. We're talking about people from the top of the corporate world. They don't make split-second emotional decisions. Numerous reports emerged (if we believe them) that Maldini was requesting impossible things. Apparently it wasn't a money thing, but about power. He couldn't accept that he won't be the only person in charge, which is kind of absurd. He is just an employee after all.
