I wouldnt go as far as to say the best but hes definitely up there. The archetype analysis is interesting but the weighted significance is more subjective than anything. He only really leads in passing, aerial and carrying.

View attachment 53657

A little confirmation bias on my end but I wonder how Leao ranks amongst the top 50 wingers in terms of press. Who amongst the elite wingers shows similar or lower numbers?

View attachment 53660
Leão’s shortcomings in the press shouldn’t matter, because he is the personification of the Gamebreaker profile. Not only does he rank first for Passing in this group - the only player to score above 80 - but he also ranked second behind Lookman for Shot Location. You’re not meant to be elite at both.

To hammer home the rarity of blending these two superpowers, I have another stat. Of the 4,655 players in the Winger / Attacking Midfielder database provided by Gemini Sports, only these six players scored 75+ for both the Shot Location and Passing Attributes:

Mohamed Salah (SL: 100, P: 96.1)
Raphinha (SL: 77.2, P: 90.7)
Rafael Leão (SL: 77.7, P: 83.2)
Ousmane Dembélé (SL: 76.8, P: 80.9)
Cole Palmer (SL: 75.4, P: 78.6)
Kaoru Mitoma (SL: 76.5, P: 77.1)
Of those six players, Rafael Leão ranks first for Carrying with 94.7 - only the €134m Wirtz beats him within our most wanted selection ... Personally, I think Leão’s Gamebreaking ability is so obvious I would pay the money. Throw in his cheat code athleticism - 1.88m tall and rapid - and you have a potential world-beater. But that’s just my opinion.

Shitty team? Calafiori & Tonali was monsters I replace Fofana-Rlc-Tomori-Pavlo by them, Bastoni-Barella as usual, Combiaso & Raspadori changed everything in the build up, 32 millions for the 2 why we let Juve, Napoli and Atheletico to go ahead of us.

Retegui improved his game while kepping scoring.

Switzerland beat Kosovo, ranked 95th in the Fifa world rank list, 4:0, with two goals from Embolo. Retegui scored two only against Estonia, ranked 126th in the Fifa world rank list.

So... Embolo >>> Retegui

The confusion is true,
We all thought he was brought in as CF. Now he openly says “i like AM”.

No wonder Allegri is not happy.

Whoever push for this transfer was cringe.

Function over system. Don't think of AM behind the CF or SS behind the CF. He can do literally everything. He'll have an attacking role, period. Also, Nkunku in the same interview literally said he talked to Allegri before signing. How could Allegri not be happy then?

Then of course, media will take Allegris "I'll figure out how exactly to use him" and blow it up to "Allegri is furious" because rage farming will always get you more clicks and a higher interaction score on social media, which is nowadays sport journalisms bread ans butter.

I’m ready for Leao prima punta

Time for him to stop being so one dimensional, the fact is we haven’t really progressed with Leao LW dribble and inshallah (also due to the defensive deficiencies this causes)

It’s funny how these things work.

Inter reached the CL Final and were annihilated, humiliated, and humbled. 5-0 is a historic embarrassment. That’s what people will remember. In Serie A they blew it as well with seconds left. That’s what people will remember.

My thing is if you play the Final you got to win it. No one apart from Inter fans ultimately cares or remembers how well you did against Bayern and Barcelona to get there.

If you’re going to collapse like that it’s better to do that in the semis.
so its better to not even get to CL than geting trashed in final ?

After a triumphant Euro2020, things have been pretty bleak.

An early Euro2024 exit and failure to qualify for the World Cup yet again.

Lots to set right. I am hoping Gattuso is the guy.
Played very offensively, sort of 4-2-4 with Politano and Zaccagni outside and Kean and Retegui in the middle. The two combined pretty well, Retegui 2 goals and a fantastic back heel assist and Kean on a header looking big and strong.

Estonia is very week but managed to keep a 0-0 score at the half thanks to blown chances and some superb saves by the keeper. We scored 5 in the second half that completely dominated.

We had two LCB, Bastoni and Calafiori who was more on offense than defense, the subs were great and Tonali was all over the pitch. Raspadori, Orsolini, and Cambiaso were very good off the bench, (I think Cambiaso will replace Di Marco soon), Locatellli the only sub that was poor, missed a ton of passes, while Pio Esposito in a few minutes came close to scoring.

I think our striker problem is solved with Kean and Retegui, (man of the match along with Tonali). Barella was so-so, Zaccagni very good, (was ignored by Spalletti), Politano great work rate as usual, Dollar made one great save which was the only shot we gave up.

Watching Cambiaso I understand why Milan wanted him and why he's so expensive. Plays with both feet, solid defender, decent speed, and accurate crosser. So, Italy does have some talent: Dollar, Bastoni, Calafiori, Cambiaso, Barella, Tonali, Kean, Retegui, Zaccagni, in addition to others that didn't play like Vicario, Buongiorno, Scalvini, Rovella off the top of my head.

Retegui also had an assist on Kean's goal, a back heel pass that showed real class that very few can replicate. Before Atalanta I thought he was average but now I changed my mind: talented striker that can do it all and it's a shame he's wasting his talent in the Saudi League.

Yes, great team that couldn't even beat a Norway with a couple of good players. Couldn't even score a single goal and let in 3. Great, sure.
Yeah well if you judge like that you can say we didnt beat a lot of “insert shitty team” teams.
And we beat real madrid, so we must be better than them!

Calfiori, Bastoni, Barella, DiMarco, Cambiaso, Tonali, Retegui, Kean, Donnarumma would walk into our team as starters with ease!

I read Mike’s contract situation remains difficult, and he is out of contract next summer.
I wouldnt mind getting another goalkeeper as Mike IMO isnt the most reliable one. But it would be sad to let him walk out for free.

We’ve already got Torriani in our ranks. But are they really gonna let him be our 3th goalkeeper again this season , like last season. They’ve got no plan at all for him it seems. They’ve shouldve loaned him to a serie B team or something where he wouldve been first keeper.
Or we have to give him game time in our first team, but I cant see it happening.

This torriani situation bothers me a lot. He was so good in every pre season game he played.

All Leao has to do is work on timing his runs
Make runs and then finish. He has everything else

What does Shooting Location mean, @brk ?
Does the player consistently shoot from dangerous positions. Fofana would have a terrible score there for example, while a poacher that tends to shoot from angles/positions that lead to high xG chances, will get a higher score.

Shot placement is how well they shoot, accuracy, post shot xG being high.

Leao has a good location score but is almost bottom for shot placement. We all know how terrible his finishing is, but for a winger he does get into dangerous positions while shooting.

Honestly, to me that means he has enormous potential to score a LOT more goals, if he works on his fucking shooting technique like we all want him to. That's the challenge for Allegri. Get him to score a lot more poacher goals, more headers, more simple shots that lead to more goal chances, instead of those shitty far post curlers he always attempts.

Yea agreed
I always dint rate him amongst best strikers because he was basically a poacher although an elite one.

But I have learnt to appreciate how good he was. Would I have preferred ibra or etoo over him? Absolutely. At the time I mean.

Would we have won ucls with ibra who chokes under pressure in ucl? I don’t think so. We would have won 5 straight Scudetti though even in the rigged fodder a league. No amount of rube or inter cheating could stop that if ibra played for Milan in that era.

Would I swap 5 straight scudetti for 2 ucl?
No chance.

Etoo though? Yea fuck yes I would have swapped and we should have bought him over Ronaldinho. That was the beginning of the end of Milan. We are still recovering from that blunder.

But we can only move forward from here on.

Also Pippa gets underrated as I mentioned before. His value was the timing of his runs and the amount of movement around the box which created chaos. And he was a massive big game player. I always rate players who step up very highly. That’s why drogba is one of my favourite strikers of all time. God, I would have killed to have a player like drogba in Milan back in mid 2000.

Pippa also was a great finisher and good with headers. His high iq to be at the right place at the right time plus combo of movement and timing of his runs made him lethal. Not a complete forward but if you have good passers behind him he would be devastating.

Like haaland without the speed but Pippa had much higher iq and better off the ball movement. And Pippo was a far better big game player. Not choker like haaland.

RLC is good, for certain kind of gameplay.

i don't see him functioning in a fluid style of ball play because he is very physical.
maybe Allegri sees him as a practical and dogfight type of midfield.

Bro the article is an op ed.

Why does no one want Rafael Leão?

I have no idea. Well, that’s not exactly true. I know why. Take a look at the Pressing ranking for these eight players and you will, too.

My argument?

….

But that’s just my opinion.

I think outside of the personal opinions theres some really good info there. It quantifies and confirms what many were already thinking. Leaos rare combination of skills and attributes is why people cant deny his talent and potential. But also he has a low defensive work rate even amongst his peers which makes people call him lazy. Not just that but even when gets into good positions to score, hes not an elite shooter (low shot placement). In theory those should be things that can be learned and trained, or at least thats the dream that is often sold. But unless he improves either end product or defensive workrate, he wont break into the argument of being a world beater.

Yea I mean he has talent no doubt.
No denying there. But talent alone isn’t enough. Mentality, stamina, ability to play under pressure, consistency and football iq all matter too.

With proper direction who knows maybe the real player comes out.
