If we go down the Glasner route, do you see it as a success? Is this more about the philosophy and finding exponents of that philosophy ?

My fear is that we may try to replicate the real thing with a domestic solution like Italiano and it won’t work.

I don’t watch every game now, but I follow the league enough. Iraola just feels like the more exciting and potentially rewarding option, while Glasner definitely has the stronger CV right now.

From what I’ve read and heard, Glasner doesn’t really come across as a big-club coach. It’s often said he’s had quite a few tantrums and could lose the dressing room pretty easily. Feels much more suited to clubs like Frankfurt, Palace or Lazio. Then again, maybe paired with Rangnick it could actually become something interesting.

Looks like Newcastle will also trigger Abde's 60M release clause from Real Betis to replace Gordon - Barça with 20% sell on clause. On balance, 58M for Gordon is pretty good business in principle

You made some good points. But i'll point out this one...

L.Enrique failed at Roma because he wasn't backed. By the management. He would have also failed at PSG if they didn't back him up. Ultimately, he was aided by Mbappe's decision not to renew as well.
But honestly....this happens SOOO many times in football. Coaches need to be backed up by management when they have clashes with the players. Otherwise, they lose credibility and the squad jist won't follow them anymore. Ultimately leading to failure and dismissal. Of course, other things come at play too and many things need to align. But -
1) First and foremost, management needs to lay the hammer down. "You follow this guy to the T...or you don't play and you're for sale". 2) Make it known that he is here to stay long term, and be prepared to forego a season....because ultimately there will be "bad apples" that you'll need to get rid of because they won't follow the coach or simply just don't fit it.

People talk about Arteta now...but he didn't have it easy either. He was on the brink of dismissal a couple times but Arsenal stuck by him. Backed him and his ideas and rode out the storms. Roma is actually doing the same thing with Gasp. So much so, that they got rid of Ranieri and Massara in order to back the coach. If that doesn't send a signal, then what does?
And in the long term, these types of clubs usually end up reaping benefits.

Iraola was probably never as close as some wanted us to believe. The "he's ecstatic about Milan and put every other club on hold" narrative never quite added up, because the more consistent story, one that apparently was circulating even before we were linked to him as some posters here mentioned, is that he wants to stay in the PL. His wife is English, his kids are in school in London, and he has no interest in uprooting the family for Italy. My best guess is he told Cardinale and Zlatan exactly that when they met him in London last week.

The only reason Crystal Palace probably haven't announced him yet is the Conference League final. Dropping that news before the game would've been a massive distraction.

As for Glasner, who obviously walks if Iraola stays, some sources say he's a coach Rangnick rates highly. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they sorted that in Vienna too, killing two birds with one stone.

Either way, my read is they want to announce the coach, the sporting director and the CEO all at once. So I wouldn't hold my breath for anything before every piece of the puzzle is in place.
