I trust Sheva on this. Pre season is not a good indicator of how good a player is tbh.

There were times where we beat real and Bayern lmao in pre season. During banter era.

@sheva surely we are not going to miss this kid.
Me? I have no thoughts regarding scouting, never has been a thing or a premonition

Generally no Italian has impressed me other than Camarda, and this management hasn't fumbled thus far regarding player who they let go, all of the players have declined in their careers

Only exception I can think of is Kerkez, and I'm not sure if he was even released under this management. So, I trust their judgment.

Lmao only because everyone they bought has been a dud, it doesn't make it great that they manage to shift them they shouldn't have been brought in the first place

Biggest for me is Pulisic.

Cannot be depended upon, at best he should be a rotational piece constantly challenging the starters. But honestly I prefer we sell him.

For wingback I think we should look for a LWB and move Temu Cubarsi back to CB
Pulisic is super versatile though
He can play anywhere in the front line reasonably well

Rafa has a noticeable drop off if he not lwf

Nkunku as well needs to play his position

But Pulisic is the most versatile. Pity his slumps are so long and he gets injured so often

What are you on about, friend?

They released:
Brescianini
Colombo
Pelegrino
Maldini
Nasti
Pobega

All were inherited from previous management, all young Italians, all downgraded their career

Why does it hurt to say that Redbird, thus far, hadn't fumbled when it comes to outgoing Italian talents from Milan?

If this was NBA 2k I’d try to trade

Our Pubalgia + unc

For

Their Pubalgia + Kone

But they wouldn’t touch this as Kone actually has a market
Man pubalgia can be brutal tbh. Not sure if Leao can get his pace back without proper recovery. Which can take months.

EXCL. @acmilan has submitted an offer to @WestHam for Jean-Clair #Todibo, who is also being followed by @SSCNapoli.

The #Hammers are asking for 5 million for the loan, plus an obligation to buy for 24 million that would trigger after 10 appearances.

For the wages, figures similar to those of #Badiashile from @Chelsea (another Napoli target) who however has lower transfer costs.

At the moment Napoli, unlike Milan, has not yet started talks with West Ham for Todibo, despite the exploratory contacts had with the defender's entourage.

Agreed. Same with me regarding Italians.

Cdk would have been ok as backup tbh.

But an expensive backup.

Do I regret letting him go? Little bit. Cause he is better than chuck and shite.

But do I blame management for selling. Him? Hell no.

Trying to move away from the usual polemics for a moment and actually talk some football again. 😄

I was looking at our squad and wondering: if the season started tomorrow, what would Amorim's starting XI actually look like? I think it would be something close to this:

View attachment 63180

And looking at it like this, there are three areas that immediately worry me. The biggest one is the back three.

Gila is obviously a starter and probably the defender who currently fits Amorim's football best. We already saw glimpses of it in the friendly, but we knew this before Amorim even arrived: his CBs need to be much more than defenders. A lot of the build-up starts with them. They need to recognise and play passes between the lines, break the opponent's first pressing line and create advantages from deep. Right now, Gila is the only one I really trust to do that consistently.

The problem is that most of our other CBs were basically built for Allegri-ball. They became accustomed to defending deep, protecting relatively little space behind them and leaving much of the actual build-up to a midfielder dropping alongside them. With three midfielders, that was often Modric. Under Amorim, that responsibility shifts considerably. The CBs themselves have to create.

I've put De Winter in there because I think he's probably the one I trust most after Gila in that regard. If I remember correctly, he even played in midfield during his Juve youth days and you can see some of that in his game.

Pavlovic gets the other spot because he was basically an undisputed starter last season. I actually like his ability to carry the ball forward. He's powerful, has a good burst and can eat up metres quickly. But in a much higher defensive line, that's less important. I don't need him charging 30 metres up the pitch as often. I need him to open the game from the back and consistently find the right pass under pressure. That's a very different job and definitely not his strength.

The second major hole for me is RAM. We simply don't have a natural player for that position right now. I've put Pulisic there because I trust him much more than Nkunku on the right. We've already seen Pulisic play very well starting from the right wing, so the transition shouldn't be completely alien to him.

The irony is that Amorim has already talked about how perfectly suited Pulisic is to the left side of his system – and I completely agree with him. That's exactly where I'd want him too. But unless someone arrives for the right, I almost think we're forced to sacrifice that and play Pulisic there, with Nkunku on the left.

So for me another attacking midfielder, preferably someone naturally comfortable on the right, is an absolute mercato priority. Get that player and suddenly you can have Pulisic, Nkunku and Cissé competing on the left while actually having a proper solution on the right.

Then there are the wingbacks. Saelemaekers is probably the only one I feel completely comfortable with. Left or right, doesn't really matter to me. He's two-footed, can dribble, cross, combine, attack space and even has some goal threat. He just looks like a very natural Amorim wingback. After him, though? Lots of question marks.

We all know Chukwueze has basically one foot, and Serie A defenders figured that out pretty quickly two years ago. I can live with him as an option from the bench, but I really wouldn't want to enter the season relying on him as a starting wingback.

Athekame is interesting. I actually liked quite a lot of what I saw last season – especially his 1v1s, crossing and even his willingness to attack the box. But he's still extremely young and raw. Maybe Amorim turns him into exactly what we need, but that's a lot of faith to put into a kid at this stage. And Estupiñán is... well, Estupiñán. He doesn't exactly fill me with confidence either. 😅 So another proper wingback would be very high on my list.

Interestingly, I'm much less worried about striker and midfield – mainly because I'd really like us to commit to something we've talked about for years: actually giving our young players a path into the first team. Ramos is the obvious starter at CF. Behind him, I'd happily go into the season with Camarda as his deputy rather than buying another player who blocks his path. Give the kid minutes. Give him opportunities. Give him some patience when he inevitably has bad games. If we genuinely want to avoid another Liberali situation, at some point "trusting the youth" has to become more than something we say after losing them.

Same with Comotto. I genuinely see him as Modric's deputy. There's something about his style that reminds me of an incredibly young and obviously much, much rawer Modric. Let him learn behind him. That's exactly the kind of situation we should be creating for these kids. Ricci, meanwhile, I just don't see in this system at all. I'd sell him tomorrow if there was a decent offer. Fofana I can live with keeping if we can't sell him, although I'd still rather see those minutes go towards Comotto. And RLC should absolutely be sold.

On the left, Rabiot obviously starts. But Jashari as his deputy makes perfect sense to me. That's basically the role in which he made his name at Brugge and became one of the most coveted young midfielders in Europe. We even saw what he could do there in the CL against Atalanta. With his strong left foot, he also looks much more natural on that side than on the right.

So if the season started tomorrow, my priorities for a realistic mercato would be pretty clear:

A ball-playing CB to replace either Pavlovic or De Winter, a natural right-sided attacking midfielder and another starting-quality wingback. Do that and suddenly I think the starting 11 starts looking considerably more coherent for Amorim. And rather than filling every remaining gap with another €20m signing, I'd much rather leave some deliberate space for Camarda, Comotto, Jashari, Cissè and Athekame to actually develop.

Otherwise we can talk about "Milan Futuro" and our great youth project until we're blue in the face – and then wonder again why the next Liberali decides his future is somewhere else.
I'd like to add one thing: we have this Diawara kid. Let's see if he can be dependable CB this season. I watched one YouTube video of him, and he seems good with the ball.

Liberali is doing great with Como, my gut says he will be valued around 30m after a single season of regular football.

The great AC Milano is doing a GOBLOK way of doing business with young players.
when Madrid can earns hundreds of millions managing youngsters, Milan keep losing their talents for peanuts.
(meanwhile keeping the peanut talents inside).

You heard I told you so's about Theo scoring twice in SA

They had people here doing the same about him being back on NT .... But when knockout football started where was he buried?

Buckle up bro, 2-3 goals in Turkey and I'm sure they will arrive.

One of the problems I see with inverted AMs as well as WBs is that the play will naturally shift to the center of the pitch with not much threat outside.

We also need to improve considerably on set pieces, both defending them and taking them. A major weakness and hope we find someone really good in that aspect, and that the markings will be better with every potential receiver acounted for.

I repeat if they want 41 years old Modric as starter, season will be huge shit. Dude is old, and his legs are almost gone
I think he will probably be the most important presence in the squad.

If we're being honest we are a club in need of a 6 time CL winner who can still ball at 41. He led this team in culture last season, together with Rabiot.

You better brace yourself up for"I told you so" especially with this directionless management. Plus putting the weight of the team failing for 2 consecutive seasons on just a player should earn you lot of "I told you so" and rightly so unless the management/team get it right this time hopefully.

Im sure there’s different and random arguments that pop up in between. Mostly I just mean this place has become too polarized for me, in just about every topic that’s brought up. Too many agendas. It’s not about who’s right or wrong. And I also don’t like how pointing out any sort of nuance in anything gets you immediately boxed into a side that you may or may not care for.

I’ll just use Leao as an example, I think a lot of the Leao criticism is over the top, he seems like a decent guy to me and I think there are certain things people blow up. I also think Leao should leave, he simply doesn’t play defense and that will not work in a modern pressing team, period. But it’s too black and white. People laugh at Leao for lack of offers and all this and that, but even the most radicalized Leao hater would HAVE to admit injuries and playing as a striker contributed to him having a shit season. You would be insincere to say otherwise, even if you’ve wanted Leao out for 5 years. That’s agenda behavior. Likewise, the most staunch Leao supporter would HAVE to admit his lack of anything off the ball just has never gotten better, and there’s no way the kinda system Amorim(and really any coach that’s new wave) wants to play has room for a player like that. Leao is far better on the ball than Anthony Gordon, but that’s what coaches want right now. Rashford is suffering a similar fate as a similar player.

But you point out anything like this and you’re either a delusional Leao twerker or you’re one of the three who laugh at each others jokes all day. This goes for the Maldini topic as well as other things often discussed here. As Coop pointed out to me, maybe it’s just the lack of fresh faces around here. Not enough new takes or perspectives. But I think it’s also just too many of us have been here too long and don’t have interest in actually talking about the game like that. They prefer to stick to their little cliques and make acquaintances on here, which is fine. Everyone can do what they want. But I’m a football nerd, I like talking about the game in any capacity and I’m tired of talking about finances or how Milan will never be Madrid or Bayern again. I want to talk with someone about tactics. I want to talk about WHY certain players don’t work, not just black and white they suck or they don’t.

But whatever, it’s not gonna change lmao. I’ve been on here for like 15 years I know better. Today is my birthday(not so subtly throwing that out there lol) so maybe I should reflect on the state of RnB.

God how can it be the end of July already?

The WC freaking flew by, summer is winding down, I hear talk of kids getting ready to return to school.

I got into an argument with a guy at the gym today. My test is out of control.

Bro this is a community of mostly middle aged Milan fans that are left over from the prime Berlusconi era. I treasure this place and the interactions I have here, there aren’t any Milan fans where I live and mostly everyone I know calls me the F word or worse for even liking this sport.

If you don’t like something that is being discussed, tell your bros to shut the fuck up and move on.

But don’t get disenchanted with this place, this forum is all that’s good in the world of men.
