Maybe the higher tempo and the ability to make the simple pass to someone who will then also move it on is better for him.

He was good enough today.

Before we signed him, I had watched a ton of him for the US, and a decent number of his games at Valencia.

Basically he was incredibly press resistant and exceptionally good at carrying the ball. Passing was adequate and decision making in the final third was poor, but he always positioned himself well.

I thought he has the upside to become an elite 8 if he added final third quality while keeping the rest of what he did well, but over the last few seasons, he looked like his confidence was shot and maybe he was focusing on the parts of his game that hadn’t developed and that ended up causing the strengths of his game to fade.

In this season, he seems to be being played in a way that emphasizes what he is good at and limiting the things he has struggled with, and seems well suited to this system.

Even though I’m pretty confident he’s never going to hit the heights I had hoped he’d reach (he is only 23, but I doubt there is a massive step forward left), I would love to see him get to a point where he can be a useful squad player

He's simply not a "much better" prospect.

A) just to hit this point because people make it and it doesn't track with reality- a huge part of why loans are tricky is because teams tend to prefer the players they already own. So even those this was a pretty well structured loan to encourage them to play him, the player already owned by the club is already at an advantage, so the "starting ahead" of him point is not the best comparison.

B) Last season on the same team in the same general role, Cisse averaged 0.37 goals + assists per 90 minutes played, and Liberali was at 0.4- that's so close it should be considered equal production. Yes Cisse is bigger, and while that's nice its hardly the only thing that matters.

And the fact that Como, who has consistently shown that they have an excellent eye for talent, wanted Liberali, indicates that he is in fact an excellent prospect in his own right.


My broader point is that I find it really silly that people are making a big to do with Liberali vs Cisse, when if we had been more thoughtful in our approach we could have had two high end prospects in a similar role, which also means a much better chance that 1 of them hits and becomes an important player.

We’re either moments away from the opening act of a brilliant visionary, or two hours away from becoming a monumental laughing stock and developing a months-long migraine, until they sack the coach in winter and hire some random Serie A journeyman.
There is no third way. Tertium non datur. This kind of madness only ever leads in one of two directions.

Ceterum censeo RLC has to be sold immediately.

Liked the first game which is always a question mark, even with the far less changes then we did.

Torino away is always a tricky fixture (except for those 7-0 which were an anomaly), and this was a welcome change from last season where you can hardly remember a match where we dominated.

I expected a good pressing, offensive philosophy, lot of passing to both flanks, Ramos dropping and doing a hell of a job. I was more worried about the defence, as both Pavlovic (shaky preseason) and De Winter (very average player) were playing in a high
Iine, but we managed to do a good job most of the match.

Last 15 minutes are showing this is a work in progress, but generally I liked it so far.

Just a few points:
- Cisse very good with the ball, almost always direct, sometimes holds the ball too long but is generally hard to take the ball from. Will be very useful in rotation this season
- Musah good, energetic, just as Amorim likes it, which is even more important at the beginning of the season when not everyone is match fit. Probably the reason he stayed on the pitch the whole game. He has good tools, hopefully Amorim minimizes the known flaws and he could be useful as utility player
- Gila excellent signing, improves our defence so much
- Rabiot top player, decisive today, not surprised of his impact at RAM
- Ramos very intelligent, always present (would like to see his heatmap), fantastic signing

Amorim I liked in general, his work is already visible. The only issue might be subtitutions management (even he said after the match he could do better) as we were without subs after 75’ when Gila was forced to go out. Also, I liked the tweak to swap Saele and Chuk which killed Njie’s Leaoesque runs on the left (Saele did concede free kick which led to goal, but that was superb strike by Adams).

Also, I like versaility a lot of players offer: Saele can play LAM, LWB, RWB; Rabiot RAM, LCM; Moreira LWB, RWB; Musah RCM, RWB; etc.

If we are to assume LAM will be occupied by Pulisic and Cisse (and Saele), RAM by Rabiot and RLC, then I would say we need a starting RCM like Hojbjerg (with Musah as his backup), having in mind LCM will probably be Modric and Jashari + Comotto as jolly. In case of emergency, Rabiot can be dropped to CM as well.

Also, I don’t trust our CBs. I would like one big name for CCB, and in all honesty would rather sell De Winter and keep Tomori as RCB backup, but that’s wishful thinking. LWB also leaves something to be desired, but as RWB will be more offensive option as Amorim noted, then I can live with Bart, Estupinan and Saele as more conservative options for left side atm.

Ideally, we are CCB, CM (Hojbjerg?) and backup striker away from being a really serious team. Also, we need to see what happens with Leao as I doubt we’ll get rid of him until the end of transfer market.

I agree they need to strengthen up the spine. If Leao sticks around then they’re likely covered in the attacking mid area. Maybe move those resources to a top CM.

Milan was very close to signing a player that won't happen now, it'll be postponed to January. I know that Milan's plan is to strengthen further.
A player will definitely arrive and it will be in the offensive area.

I also think Bartesaghi should play LCB - cause he can be very good there and also cause we miss a ball-playing left footed CB and this is key for Amorim's system. I was certain Milan was trying to buy one all summer. I would have bought a left wingback instead.
