Underappreciated Players

Denílson career has gone downhill since he left Bétis. Last news I hear he was released from some "Serie C" (Third Division) team. Before that he played for a team in Vietnam (?!). But I think the guy was overrated from the day one.

There is some folkloric history in Brazil about his transfer to Betis. São Paulo said to his agent to go to Sevilla and try to sell him for 8 millions or more. When he comes to the meeting, Bétis president said: "Well, I'll be honest with you. We are a poor team and can't pay more than 30 millions for him". The agent tought it was a joke at first, but then release the man was just plain stupid. And Denílson was really sold to Bétis for 30 millions this day. This was the biggest sell in the history of brazilian football at the time.


Jardel played at some very low rated clubs in Brazil after he recovery from his addicition to cocaine, but never find his form. I don't know were he is now...

Wasn't Jardel a goal machine? I know he didn't really play in any major leagues, but his record in Turkey and Portugal was amazing at the least.

Yes, he was. Not a skillful player, but he was a very good finisher and unbeateble in the air. Felipão bought him as a rejected from Vasco, and made him a star in Grêmio. And he just comes better in Porto and Turkey.

Yeah but these are two very weak leagues (no offense), and he never proved himself on the international stage either. I think his record is way overrated, would you say he's better than Pippo? Hell no!

He was not good enough for Seleção or top leagues, that was very clear. But he was the kind of player that could fit very well some style of play. If a team could feed him with crosses, he would score as lot. I don't know how the right rate for that, but he certainly is far, far away from Pippo.

Freddy is still owned by Benfica but he's playing for Greek club Aris Thessaloniki Football Club on loan since January this year. Before that loan move to Greece he was loaned to Os Belenenses in Portugal where he played for six months. Before that Benfica loaned him to Monaco with an option to buy. Didn't happen though.

Thus he's a Benfica player loaned to three different clubs in last two seasons.

Yes I remember... he was a member of the famous Parma team before the collapse of Parmalat. During that time there were so many excellent Italian defenders. Costacurta, Tassotti and Panucci weren't even regular starters for the national team. There was also Bergomi, Ferrara, and of course Maldini and Baresi.

Portillo- I don't have a clue but he is the highest scoring player in the Madrid youth system

It's because South Americans are mainly the most talented. In my opinion, Argentinian players are by far the most talented players in the world, therefore they have the most "forgotten players". Different players fail for different reasons, and even though many Argentinians failed to live up to their hype, many others did. Which shows how many great players they produce...

I remember Olisadebe, bought him on Football Manager 2006. Most awesome name ever, behind the legendary Tesfaye Bramble from lower league English football. I think he's a relative of Titus Bramble, great footballing stock there family produces.

I remember Deisler. Wasn't he supposed to be great, but injuries wrecked his career before it even truely began.
