OFFICIAL STATEMENT #Messi
?Despite having reached an agreement between Bar?a and Leo Messi and with the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, it will not be possible to formalize due to economic and structural obstacles (Spanish LaLiga regulations)?.

no shit sherlock, keep on throwing 10mil per season for sergi robertos and umtitis

Elliot should offer Messi a small share in the club for his services.

I am not prepared to be a massive hypocrite about how overrated I think Messi is (historically, not as a player) lol.

It would be so funny if he took a pay cut to come here lol.

take it a level further...Barca handed out the contracts to Depay & Aguero but cant officially register them until they lower their wage bill. There's a possibility that both wont be able to play in La Liga next season

no wonder they're desperate to offload Pjanic for free even though they've officially paid 60mil for him 1 year ago, they were also desperate to swap Griezmann with Saul cause they knew they'd save like 25-30mil gross per year just by Sauls salary

Let's give him 7m and see if he is still serious about playing football.

Current salaries are inflated and need to be reduced significantly.
Clubs that refuse to accept the reality will get shitfaced like Barca and Inter

But what if its indeed because of those regulations and now they did the announcement to apply pressure. Which might lead to the spanish FA changing them since they wouldnt want to lose the leagues only megastar.

With Messi likely going to PSG or City, you can bet the super league talk is going to pick up once again. Especially since those 2 oil clubs are throwing money around to every player & the rest of the world is suffering.

i don't think salary is a problem, the real question is..will he handle the competition for the rw spot?

Yes, it inevitable. The sooner the better. Barca got pissed Neymar went to PSG and now Messi left.

Pioli benching Leo for Daniel would rip a hole in the space - time continuum

La Liga will lose a lot of appeal without Messi. CR7 and Messi kept them afloat with their old tax laws, plus Spain was producing a lot of talent across the league.

Spain isn't producing the same level, they still have good players, but still. And they don't have those tax laws anymore.

The governments aren't bailing Barca and Real anymore. Spain is in a bad spot.

Germany kills itself by allowing Bayern to destroy the league. Italy, if Inter can sort itself out, can challenge England in a few years, but that really depends on whether they allow stadiums to be built.

There's a reason foreign buyers are looking to Italy more than Spain or Germany. I'm sure these tax laws are probably bad for Italy's economy long term, but it's going to be great for football teams lol. It also could lead to stifling Italian talent.

In terms of competition, the Premier League & Serie A are the most entertaining. Both of those leagues have 6 or 7 clubs competing for CL & not to mention any possible surprises.
