I think I remember reading a similar discussion before...
Anyhoo...

nesta=my vote
rui costa=contract ends in 2005 [I think] be back in Benfica
rivaldo=no way in hell
sheva=could be too

I'd personnaly like Rino but this paper headline keeps popping in to my head: "Gattuso runs down referee"...

I vote for Nesta but it is not fair to ignore Ambrosini.He has been playing in Milan since 1997(I think.)

... clearly NESTA who has proven he's capable of doing the job... rino would be my 2nd choice, too, if he just learned to control his temper a bit... [but then again he wouldn't be himself anymore :head: ].

to throw in another name: what do you think of pirlo filling the position? he's definitely no attention-seeker... so could anyone possibly shed some light on his personality? he appears calm and serious on the pitch most of the time, what about his communication/motivation/de-escalation skills and his lifestyle?

sheva is too sensitive, divaesque + obstinate at times, IMHO, even if it seems he's learned a couple of lessons recently... ;)

2 choices:

Nesta:

Advantages: Experienced as captain of Lazio, influencial and immensely talented fullback, (defender is a good position for a captain).

Disadvantages: Probably not at Milan for long enough to assume a full captain role immediately, but definently next year.

Gattuso:

Advantages: Ball winning midfielder, very vocal and confident, can inspire is team members into exerting extra energy into gaining possession or creating attacking scenarios, has been at Milan for a long while and is ready for the role if it is offered to him.

Disadvantages: Perhaps too over-exhuberant at times, they dont call him the bulldog for nuffin :D

Why isnt Gattuso an option??? :conf: ;)

1. Nesta
2. Gattuso

I wish i could say Ambro, but he doesnt get much playtime in the 1'st 11, a captain must be fielded at all time... except when injuried

as for now those with more 'caps', except paolo and billy, are
- ambrosini '95
- helveg '98
- sheva '99
-gattuso, inzaghi, rui '00
the choice is usually made out of two main criteria:
- length of service at the club and
- representativeness
considering the two often go together. none of the actual candidates seem to satisfactorily meet such criteria now; in fact, the issue will rise when maldini and billy retire, that is (imo) not before two years time, at least. we'll have to wait and see what each of the players' path will have been by then: it's very open now and i wouldn't exclude pirlo.

It will be AMBROSINI

he is the most senior player after the veterans, he has all the qualities to lead a team, and by that time he will be in the prime of his form, all he needs to do now is BREAK INTO THAT TEAM!

We already had a topic like this some months ago

Once more (of course) I submit my vote for Prince Sandro for all the reasons many of you already explained.

Discussing about "Milan Seniors" I guess Ambro is the 1st choice (and his should be added to the poll)...

But Paolo will quit in 2005... two more years for Sandro to become 100% Red&Black, to add presences and presences, to become our Milan flag...
I guess he'll be our next Captain.

This kind of choise is also connected with dressing room opinions...
CAPTAIN must be:
- the most symbolical
- the most polite
- generally a defender (think about Franz & Paolo)
- VOTED & CHOSEN FM ALL DRESSING ROOM

Just to give you an idea of how Sandro was charming and beloved fm his Lazio team mates... consider that he became Lazio Captain in 1998, when he was among the youngest of his team... only 22 years old!

HOW COULDN'T HE BE WORTH TO BECOME OUR NEXT CAPTAIN IN 2005 AFTER 3 YEARS AT MILAN, AT THE AGE OF 29???? :conf:

Definitely NOT NESTA.

We need someone that knows very well the society, the team and the "habitat", Ambro and Rino have surely better experience in this side than Nesta, even in 3 years.

IMO AMBROSINI. ;)

No way the captaincy could ever go to Nesta!

My fav is absolutely Ambrosini.

The picking order:

1. Ambro
2. Rino
3. Pirlo/Sheva

That's it! No one else could ever do the job.
