Couldn't think of an existing thread in which to put this, so I started a new one.

Superstars Assemble For Mandela Tribute
Clarence Seedorf, Gigi Buffon, Steven Gerrard, and Fabio Cannavaro are just a handful of the world’s superstars who will play in a prestigious charity match this Saturday to commemorate political legend Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday.

The former South African President, who fought to abolish apartheid in his homeland, will turn 90 on July 18. A special match has been organised this Saturday (July 12) in Germany at Munich’s Allianz Arena between two all-star XI’s to honour this landmark, and to raise money for education in Africa.

The game will kick off the beginning of the worldwide fundraising campaign Goal4Africa, where people pledge to donate money for every goal scored by their favourite team over the course of the next two years.

Milan star Clarence Seedorf is the global ambassador for Goal4Africa, and helped to ensure that many of the world’s biggest stars will be playing.

Rino Gattuso, Gigi Buffon, Emmanuel Adebayor, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, and Fabio Cannavaro are just a handful of those who will take part in the symbolic match. In total there will be 40 of the top footballers in the world in Munich.

(Goal.com)

Player roster:

Clarence Seedorf (AC Milan)
Kaká (AC Milan)
Alessandro Nesta (AC Milan)

Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus Turin)
Steven Gerrard (FC Liverpool)
Ruud van Nistelrooy (Real Madrid)
Adebayor (Arsenal)
Dida (AC Milan)
Maldini (AC Milan)
Gattuso (AC Milan)
Ronaldo (AC Milan)

Zé Roberto (FC Bayern)
Didier Drogba (FC Chelsea)
Andrea Pirlo (AC Milan)
Robin van Persie (Arsenal London)
Andrea Shevchenko (FC Chelsea)
Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)
Baichung Bhutia (Mohun Began)
Diego (Werder Bremen)
Samuel Etoó (FC Barcelona)
Benni Mc Carthy (Blackburn)
Christopher Veijeany Samba (Blackburn)
Michael Essien (FC Chelsea)
Tony Sylva (Lille)
Ronald Zubar (Marsiglia)
Shaun Bartlett (Kaizer Chiefs)
Kaizer Motaung jr. (Kaizer Chiefs)
Naldo (Werder Bremen)
Edgar Davids (Ajax Amsterdam)
Michael Ballack (FC Chelsea)

I think it's way cool that a handful of Milan players seem to regularly come out for these charity matches.

Well, here a cable channel will broadcast it, so I'm gonna watch it.
It's kinda boring nowadays. Besides the local league, I'm watching volley grand prix and that's basically it.

^^ Neither is Cannavaro. They're probably just going as ambassadors of the game.

Ronaldo is fit?

I seriously doubt it. Maybe he'll just suit up and sit on the bench. IMO, it'll be foolish of him if he tried to play, you never know what could happen.

Judging by his appearance in those vacation pics in the Ronaldo thread, anyway.

In the line up that I came across in the net, they're both gonna be coaching...

Team 1:

Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon (ITA/Juventus)
Defenders: Alessandro Nesta (ITA/AC Milan), Sergio Ramos (ESP/Real Madrid),
Paolo Maldini (AC Milan)
Midfielders: Gennaro Gattuso (ITA/AC Milan), Kaka (BRA/AC Milan), Andrea Pirlo
(ITA/AC Milan), Steven Gerrard (ENG/Liverpool)
Forwards: Robin van Persie (NED/Arsenal), Andrei Shevchenko (UKR/Chelsea),
Ruud van Nistelrooy (NED/Real Madrid), Baichung Bhutia (IND/Mohun Began)

Coach: Fabio Cannavaro (ITA/Real Madrid)

Team 2:

Goalkeepers: Nelson Dida (BRA/AC Milan), Tony Sylva (SEN/Lille)
Defenders: Christopher Samba (CGO/Blackburn), Ronald Zubar (FRA/Marseille),
Naldo (BRA/Werder Brême)
Midfielders: Clarence Seedorf (NED/AC Milan), Michael Essien (GHA/Chelsea),
Ze Roberto (BRA/Bayern Munich)
Forwards: Samuel Eto’o (CMR/FC Barcelone), Emmanuel Adebayor (TOG/Arsenal),
Benedict McCarthy (RSA/Blackburn), Didier Drogba (CIV/Chelsea),
Shaun Bartlett (RSA/Kaizer Chiefs), Kaizer Jr Motaung (RSA/Kaizer Chiefs)

Coach: Ronaldo (BRA)

I don't know how reliable it is though.

According to Eurosport, Kaka and Buffon backed out of the match. Ronaldo definitely won't be playing.

^ Reading your post, I noticed that I forgot to clean the comments between the player's names from the place I copied that, lol.
Edited now.

Anyone know the score? I only know that Seedorf's side won.

All Goal.com seemed to care about was that some Indian player scored two of the goals.

No, Seedorf's side (they were known as Edu) lost to Ballack's side (known as Cation) 9-6. Dida and Gattuso play on Ballack's team, with Dida playing the first half and Rino playing most of the game. Kasey Keller came on to play the second half (he was the only American there). BTW, Seedorf, Dida, and Gattuso were the only Milan players I noticed.
Michael Schumacher played on Seedorf's side and scored, Paulo Rink scored a hattrick for Ballack's side. If I remember correctly, Seedorf, Ballack, plus the one Beemer mentioned had goals. Don't ask me to name all who scored, 15 goals were scored after all. Maybe someone can find a boxscore.
Some miscellaneous stuff: Dida's let his hair grow out, Rino tackled throughout the game (funny thing, Rino tackled Ze Roberto and he stayed downed face first for a little bit, then all of a sudden Rino pounces on top of his back - out of fun of course).
I had to watch it on a stream, it was ok. Maybe somebody else can add to this.

I only watched the beginning of it, these charity matches can be very boring.
But it was funny to see Rino, even in a friendly match, fouling everyone. :D

I saw roughly 5 minutes of the match, around minute 80 it was edu:6 cation: 7 don't think it ended that way though.

Edit: Ended 9-6

Egad, double post. Anyway, out of all the Milan players on the list, it looks like only Dida, Rino and Seedorf made the trip to Munich.

If I remember right, Ballack's side won. Though I am an Indian, I watched Bhutia play for the first time in this match. :head:
