From a rational point of view, though, you then consider what alternatives there are and realise that Estupinan performed well under De Zerbi and is also of interest to Emery and Villa. At the same time, I see how Palestra is struggling at Chelsea and is having even more trouble finding his feet than Pavlovic.

There’s one thing we mustn’t forget either: last year we played the most abysmal football I can remember. Almost all the players have seen a significant drop in form under Allegri. It’s quite possible that the tide will now turn. We’ll see.



Amorim’s approach of not resorting to reckless signings and instead assessing the existing squad may seem like nothing new to fans, but I think it’s a positive development for Milan this season.

This is because Milan are competing in the Europa League rather than the Champions League this season.

Furthermore, apart from Leão and Gonçalo Ramos, the core squad is set to remain largely unchanged as the team prepares to play a style of football that is a complete 180-degree shift from last year’s.

Although it didn’t quite click last season, there’s every chance that players who are inherently talented could really come into their own if they adapt to Calcio and Amorim’s style.

Personally, if these four players are to stay, I’d like to think of them as the de facto signings for this season.
