Best news about all of this for me is the fact that there's a high likelihood we sign a replacement for Pervis. That will be an extremely important signing to get right.

In the absence of movement, and a potential "fine as we are" statement, Musah as a back up for Salad isn't a move I'll lose sleep over.

I advocated for Musah being recalled last January, simply to offer Salad some rest. We all saw how Salad's form dipped.

If we can sign a player to compete with Salad, keeping one we already have actually makes sense, even if we'd all hope for better.

As long as Musah is told to stay out of the box, not to shoot, and play things simple, he might do ok.

But let's be clear, we need cover for Salad, or someone to start ahead of him, and a starter ahead of Barte, these are absolute deal breakers for the upcoming season.

This is the way.

Clubs really shouldn't be hyper-focused on signing players that fit a new manager's system, only for that manager to be out the door within 2 years. If those players don't have versatile skillsets you're going to be left with a lot of scraps, expensive ones at that.

Especially in the case for someone like Amorim, who uses a non-traditional 3-4-2-1 with a lot of demanding elements.

I firmly believe it's up to the manager to use what is at his disposal, but its also useless trying to shoehorn star players into positions that don't favour them. Unfortunately it seems like our management still hasn't worked out a transfer plan that doesn't hurt us in the long run. It's a perpetual cycle of: "what profile does this manager like? >>> "what's the best we can do under X amount".... with no future forethought.
