they saw a little Pippo in him with scrappy goals and believed that he would be a great CF/ST that would pull gritty goals for us

saw him in form, pulled the attacker we would face to use against his former team (and he did score the first scrappy goal against his former team)

Atalanta did something inexplicable. They did almost nothing in the transfer market despite having made a lot of money from the transfer market. They made over 100 million from selling Retegui and Lookman plus 57 million on Palestra and yet they have failed to make any signings other than very average Gaetano and Kristensen who just arrived.

I think they are assuming the reason they underperformed last season was because of Palladino and Sarri is some sort of a magic bullet.

Their real problem is that quality has drained from the team without adequate replacement. Retegui, Ruggeri, Lookman, Palestra, De Roon losing his legs etc.

Most of the team is now fillers, injury prone good players or young players still trying to find their feet.

Scalvini, Ederson, and Scamacca are all good players with recurring injury problems. Ones like Ahanor are young and promising but trying to improve their game while most of the other ones are bang average or very mediocre.

Only Carnesecchi and CDK are good and mostly healthy.

Hopefully they win their next game and advance

Once Rodri got injured Dias exposed his flaws, not technical, bad positioning just average one who got overrated and overhyped.
