Since we didn’t make top 4, people are using hindsight to say we should have just never tried for top 4 in the first place and “developed” him instead.

Had we done that, the very same people would be bitching about our ambitions of using a Serie B caliber player in serious competitions.

We basically kept him in between the first team and Futuro the whole season, so he only got 8 games for Futuro and a game for the senior team, instead of either letting him play and develop in Serie C, or actually play minutes with the senior team.

It’s not as simplistic as treating him poorly or well, we just handled him stupidly.

We historically haven’t trusted young talents, and because of that, it becomes an easy decision for talented young players to opt to move to clubs where they feel they will actually get meaningful opportunities, and until we actually start trusting young players, we’ll continue to see them leave.

EDIT- important point to add is that our young guys thrived in primavera with Abate, and because of Ibra’s bullshit he wasn’t the coach of Futuro, so that’s another meaningful way we didn’t put those guys in a position to succeed.
